Just bought 850CSi
Discussion
Hi
Just joined the board but have been lurking for a while. Anyway just bought a 1995 850CSi and its honestly the best all round car i've ever driven. 380BHP, 550Nm of Torque, 6 Speed Manual Box, Floating Discs and it is in my opinion the best looking BMW ever.
I've owned various M cars over the years but i've always wanted a CSi because of their exclusivity and of course the M powered V12. The car only has 65k miles, 1 owner from new and was registered at Canary Wharf! It took me nearly 2 years to find a car in this condition. Red with Black leather and is as new inside and out.
What are your opinions on these cars and has anyone else owned one?

I love 'em and nearly went to look at an approved one in July but resisted!
Any idea what running costs are going to be like? Fuel/servicing etc - scary I would have thought!
I guess it starts coming down to if you can afford to run it you can afford somethiong better/newer?
Still a classic though, very jealous!

Thanks for the quick replys.
I've got BMW warranty on the car which i will definitely be renewing next year. So running costs should be reasonable. I previously owned an 840Ci with warranty which helped with the runnning costs. New engine, gearbox, catalytic convertors, EDC shocks...i think i saved over £14,000 in repairs!
Servicing should be similar to an M3 Evo according to my dealer and fuel consumption was 22MPG on my spirited but restrained drive back from London to Glasgow. Thats better than the 840Ci Auto!
The original owner wanted a DB7 but was told by the salesmen that the Aston couldn't be used day to day as it wasn't reliable. So he went straight to his local BMW dealer and ordered this car. £83,000 new and salesmen ordered the wrong colour (Bright Red instead of Calypso Red) so the chap got a healthy discount!! I prefer the bright red anyway..

I have an 850i 1991, and agree with you about them being the best looking BMW ever.
Gonna be sad to see mine go. An awful lot of unstressed aluminium v12 engine for 6K.
Dinan took an 850i and stuck twin turbo chargers on it giving 620bhp !!!!!
Apparently they used the 850i rather than the csi as the 850i had a slightly lower compression for the forced induction.
If I were you my next purchase would be a set of BMW electrical and repair manuals for the car.

Yep its a shame, I'm gonna sell mine soon as I have to make room in the garage for the M5. There not worth much, mines going in the paper for about 6K. Still its a testiment to BMW a 1991 car thats not had a BMW service in five years and has never failed an MOT.
When you look under this 13 year old car there is no sign of rust and it puts my two year old TVR to shame.

Congratulations on the M5, i've just been reading your other thread and it sounds like a nice one. I actually considered buying an M5 because i couldn't find a decent CSi for ages. My best mate has just bought one and we compared the performance and they are VERY similar with the M5 a little quicker at lower speeds and the CSi marginally quicker above 80-90.
