Just been to look at a 1995 MR2 that was oficially imported in 1999. The seller said that he has had no problems getting insured as the car was built to UK specs, and was known as a 'world car'. I have been able to get a reasonable insurance quote online by using the registration number, that says that the car must be either UK, or built to UK standards. My question is, are most, if not all MR2's built to UK standards in Japan.

Gadgit.

As the whole world is aware, Im going through the process of getting an MRT now.

AFAIK the UK standards thing, just means "Can it pass the UK MOT?" - So it needs rear fog, speedo in MPH etc.

Hope that helps a little. For the record, mine is going to be insured through Adrian Flux.

Many thanks. Its Just had an MOT, so it would seem Ok from that point of view. It was G-Limited, which has the LSD. Was this an option on UK models. Its been conerted to MPH as well.

Cheers, Gadgit.

When people say they have 'had it built to UK spec' it means (usually) they have stuck full leather seats in, uk radio and that's about it, as that's pretty much the only difference between the G-Limited and the GT type UK.

Electric retracting wing mirrors also.

No its not a turbo, its the 174bhp NA model. This is my dads login, but i'm only 21, so would probably get stung on insurance if i had a turbo. Getting the car tuesday, so pics to follow.

Coooool. More converts.

Everytime I'm denied an insurance quote for the import, I ask why. I'm usually told some bullshit along the lines of "it's not built to the same standards as a UK spec car".

Really. They made very few ST205s. They were incredibly expensive. They were *ALL* made in the same factory from the same bits by the same people. Mine actually has twin airbags becuase it's jap spec, which UK cars don't have. So actually you're talking UTTER RUBBISH.

And breathe.

Their loss.

Oh, and no pics, no mod.
