Turbo Tyre

Not a new subject I know but after having a Schwalbe turbo tyre for a while now I like the reduction in noise plus increased grip. It has been fine but is now cracking a fair amount on the sidewalls etc. It hasn't failed but recently it has been a bh to get it seated on the rim and keeps bulging around the valve, every time you blow it up the bead pops out. Also it has started to do this at the beginning of the sessions when it is already inflated. I noticed the other week that there was a bit of vibration and looked down to see the tyre all over the place. It went back in but it's a faff..it takes enough motivation as it is sometimes to head off to the cave and train let alone restart once you have just stopped and got cold again!

So. What is everyone using? I wont go back to old road tyres as they get shredded. After the recent issues I stuck an old 4 season on there. It was ok but it isn't going to stand up to many sessions before being destroyed? I would just buy another Schwalbe but it annoys me that whilst the tyre surface looks fine the actual construction is failing to bits.

Vittoria, Continental, Tacx...anyone have experience of these?

I've got the Vittoria tyre, only because Decathlon were selling them for £12 in-store. I've only put about 200 miles on it so far, but it's showing no signs of wear. Was quite a tight fit though, so maybe not ideal if you're switching tyres every time, I've got mine on a spare wheel/cassette.

Recently had to replace my Tacx tyre as it had started to disintegrate, shedding bits of blue rubber across a large area, presumably to the enormous amounts of power I was producing... Looking at my history on TrainerRoad, looks like I only got just over 50 hours out of it, which sounds pretty poor in retrospect, especially since I've replaced it like-for-like .

Not cheap, but a lot cheaper from the German discount store.

Hmm. 50hrs wouldn't last me a couple of months!

Not sure how anyone can do so much turbo training - chapeau!

I could be because I was doing a sprinting Sufferfest video and the tyre kept slipping. I didn't want to adjust the contact force since that would then change all my virtual power stuff on TrainerRoad (which is a good relative figure, though pretty suspect on an absolute scale).

I've logged around 60hrs on a Tacx tyre (I think? It's blue) and it's got plenty of life in it still.

I've got an Elite Coperton Turbo tyre and it was an absolute byatch to get on the rim... ruined 2 tubes and used half a bottle of baby powder before I managed it.

Seems very hard-wearing though

+1, still as good as new, does not slip on the roller and IIRC only cost about £12 from CRC....

I have the Continental Home Trainer Folding Tyre. Fitting it was a form of physical and mental torture. It is so flat, hard and waxy it seems impossible that it will ever take on the shape of a tyre. However it has lasted very well, and I'd definitely get one again...if I ever need to replace it.
