Why cant someone come up with a BUDGET race series like the slick 50 road saloon series before it let 16 valve engines into it?? there is still a whole bunch of sd1 rovers and capris that are out there to partake in a series for the average man/woman to go racing?????????????????????????????????????

with you on that one .. even our own budget tvr challenge is anything but budget .. rumours of 30k cars on teh field for old tasmins .. christ knows what a cerbera would cost to run for a season

How hard is it to start a series? there must be lots of people out there who think along the same lines as you? ..

Well actually I'd argue that series like the Seloc BMW E30 and the MaX5 championship's are doing exactly what Slick 50 did but in a new school stylie so to speak.

Fair enough these are one make championships but the problem with mixed make racing (as proved by Hot Hatch and indeed Slick50) is that some cars are simply better at the track work. This then creates financial, technical and political issues within the series. Result, mixing makes will fail eventually unless you make them anything goes type series.

All those SD1's and Capri's are welcome in Group One Touring Cars which is specifically for pre Jan 1983 saloons. Running to the Group One regs of 1982. Group One is what BTCC was known as in the late 70's and early 80's. I run in an Escort RS1600i.

i havent heard of the bmw e30 series or the max 5? i know you can put quite a few cars into the grp 1 series but even that series is way above the budget of an average joe mechanic for instance, if the slicks were to come back with there original regulations the series would be massive again as you could go racing and win for a budget of less than 5k!!!
