I have a Hyundai Coupe SIII 56 the Atlantic edition. 2.0 manual
covered 50k miles

I have engine noise at the top, a friendly mechanic took top cover off and confirmed its the Cam chain. was asking what oil i used 10W40 part synthetic. Was told main dealer needs to look at this due to VVT needs to be readjusted or something.

Any how, following on from this i contacted Hyundai at a £75 diagnostic fee, £375 for replacement of chain and timing. They're saying cams need doing the same time as they are usually related, i'm not having a car that's done 50k miles should need cam chain or cams for that matter
so does anyone have any ideas and if so great if not, any independent specialists locally i'm based in staffordshire

thanks for help :-)

edit
forgot to add the cams are an additional £160-180 each, cant remember exactly what they said just knew it was and added £300+

I not sure where you are in the midlands but i do bodywork for a garage in swadlincote called woodland autocentre. They used to run the hyundai main dealers in ashby de la zouch so know them really well. Its worth an ask! Their number is 01283 223436. I'm not sure of their hourly rate etc, but its worth a call.

You don't say where in the West Midlands, but JAPS on the Torrington Avenue in Coventry are a Japanese and Korean specialist, so maybe worth a try.
