Nurseries/Child Care (1yr + ) Potters bar and surrounding
Discussion
Hi Guys,
Can anyone recommend nurseries or child care around a 5-8mile radius of Potters Bar. We had a look at the local one on the high street and although staff were friendly I thought it felt dingy and didn't like the thought of our daughter spending 11 hrs x 3 days a week there.
We both work in London but happy to drive her to somewhere suitable. We are looking at Willows Farm near St Albans soon.
Cheers
Matt

My son loved it here! Wonderful place! St.Albans centre, so might not be so convenient for you.

I don't know where u start out from but if its near pbar driving to and from St Albans will get very irritating in rush hour. Also remember a 1 yr old will be knackered after a day at nursery somu need to get home quickly to get them to bed. Presume you refer to Head Start? then seriously think again. They are exceptional. Both mine go there, my eldest since he was 11mts. He's over 3 now so We have 2.5 years experience with them and have got to know many of them well. Absolutely nothing but good things to say. Very dedicated staff, lots of activities and education to fully engage the kids and our boys absolutely love the place. My local friends with kids there would say the same. They can take credit for helping our three year old become a grounded, happy, helpful, kind, confident and social little man. Our 1 yr old is coming along the same lines. A lot of the staff do baby sitting too which is a godsend!

E36Guy - yes I am refering to HeadStart. I haven't been anywhere else so don't have anywhere to compare to. I liked the staff but just felt it looked and felt dingy.
But I walk past it everyday and all of the parents look like my sort of people.
It's still on the cards and may well be the best of a bunch. I was impressed with what they did just not the environment so to speak. But they might all be like that.
Edit to add - Headstart is extremely convienent - we live 2 mins walk from it and I pass it on my walk to the station, so it really is top of the pile on that side of things

I'll concede it could use a lick of paint here and there but what you won't see having only been in there once is that the photographs on the wall are constantly updated as the kids move along. They are all current to the class involved - not just to look nice to visitors!
What we like in particular is that at the end of every day you get a detailed verbal report of what they have done, what they ate, how long they slept, notable development observations (hand-written) etc. They also keep like a diary for each child which contains all their 'art' work, photographs of them doing said work. When each diary is full it gets given to you to take home which is a lovely touch.
If you see a Dad picking anyone up in either an old blue S plate BMW e36 estate with M3 wheels or an M9 private plated black X5 that's me. Please say hello. It would be good to know more people locally!

Cheers E36, certainly changed my perspective. I liked the photos, staff + diaries.
I do believe I've seen an E36 touring with M3 wheels
will say hi next time.
I used to have an E36 325i with M3 bumpers and Alpinas (reps). Loved that car! Sadly in my younger inexperienced hands it met its death
