Want to do something "practical" to help those with problems, so have taken Somersets lead and created the Facebook group shown below. I wonder if the people on here would be kind enough to help me get the word out there.
Somerset currently has 7000 members, and work really well, currently I have three, so a long way to go.
The idea is, it's a place for people to request and offer assistance, but unless people know about, it ain't gonna work!

Not good. A friend lives there, right on the Thames, but at the Datchet end so a bit higher than most but he has a lovely house. (Hope I don't have to change that to 'had'.)

My wife used to live next the Thames near Penton Hook Lock in the 60s
The river would often flood but everyone in the area were ready
They would put furniture on blocks and build walkways on bricks to the house
Also they would bring the boats up to the house
The floors were made of Tarmacadam so when the water went down they would sweep and hose down
It was one of the 'Joys' of living by the river

Apparently it's been a god send, but will only work if the word gets out there.
I wonder if the collective would be able to assist, basically, the more members on the group, the better it will work, so if you need someone who will either need or can offer help, please get them to join.
