How do you become a writer?

I do not mean writing novels etc but writing columns in magazines, or getting paid to write blogs/ reviews etc? I'm looking at opportunities since I'm leaving school in May and was wondering where to go from here. I think writing is something I'd enjoy. Thanks everyone

Write something and get it published in anything. Then you do more and more and more.

Write about what you like and know, send it to some magazines.

Great advice there. I'd also add that if you really enjoyed it, it could be anticipated that you'd be quite prolific already and that studying the art of the English language would be an obsession...

You'll stand a greater chance of earning an income from writing if you specialise in something and something that's not already saturated (such as car reviews or related topics) - although if you can find an 'angle' or style that's new, then you may get lucky.

A course in journalism would be beneficial - either full or part time.

And don't forget, your writing is a product and like any product, you have to sell it so you'll need to build a network of editors and publishers.

There is a good apprenticeship opportunity based just a couple of miles away from me writing for 'dog world ltd' I suppose it'd be a start, although the salary is 3x less than other business related ones where my qualifications lie

Writing is very poorly paid.

The explosion of online news, information and opinion resources has created more opportunity for content providers, however accompanying this is the fact that any tt who can write their name now thinks they can do the job.

Hi as I said earlier, just write about what you are interested in. I have just had a full page article published in this months Record Collector magazine.

Ok I had something of interest but all I did was contact them and asked if I should put something together.

They will edit it change it to fit the page, length ect but in the end.....you are published.

Oh I did it on my phone along with photos added too.

Job done....GO FOR IT.
