BMW M3/330i prices
Discussion
Bit of advice for my bro in law please . .
He has an Dec 01(51) M3 bought in Aug this year as an Approved Used BMW.
It's Carbon black with Kiwi leather & 18" wheels with Satnav/TV, 27k miles & has just been serviced.
They now have a child on the way so need a 4 door and have decided on a 330i auto.
What would be the best thing to do - trade in at a dealer and end up paying full price for the 330 ?
The M3 has been advertised privately for c£28k for a while now with not much interest.
Ideally, they'd lik to have cash to pay for the the 330i and be ale to bargain a bit more.
Any ideas welcome !

Sos mate, but 24k is best you could expect. Seen one at dealer about same price. Say you got 24k for it. Then go for 03/03 E39 530 sport or 530d sport fully specced for about 22k on a private sale. Net result 2k in your pocket and perhaps the best for the money. If you can stretch to 29-30k an 02 plate E39 M5 would be good.

If you've seen one with that kind of spec and miles for £24k at a dealer that hasn't got a dodgy history I would buy it!
Prices have dropped significantly, but I would still expect to get somewhere close to £27k privately for it.
Edited to add ... this time of year is not good for selling cars it might be worth waiting until the new year.

Maybe not quite the spec or mileage, but it is from a main dealer, not a private sale. The mileage & spec doesn't make this one worth £4/5K more!

age: The car is only 6 months older.
colour: ok, PY not great, but doesn't affect value THAT much.
sat nav: any dealer will tell you its worth a few hundred pounds only, just makes the car easier to sell. I think this is especially true now tomtom go etc are so affordable.
I know the one i posted is particularly cheap and dealer is proabbly having a last go at selling before letting it go to the trade, but i still think his b-i-l won't get anything like £28K for his privately, which is bearing out as he is advertising it and getting no interest?!

Thanks for the responses.
I agree completely with this.
The dealer offered £27,250 against an 03 330i costing £22,750.
The 330i only had leather & auto box, nothing else.
For cash, he could probably get the same car for under £21k.
Problem is the damn M3 - I told him he should be looking to get shot of it as soon as.
Kiwi leather can't be helping the cause either !
doesn't sound like too bad a deal to me, any deal with a BMW main agent is going to cost you a couple of K's and in reality he's getting something like £25/26k for his M3.
I think they're only going to drop with the new 3 series on the horizon, he either takes the hit now or lives with the M3 for the longer term IMO.
Failing that, tell him to find a nice E36 M3 saloon for £12K ish and he'll be surprised how good they are! I'd take an E36 M3 over an E46 330i any day!
