Mentioned it here before but when I was looking this was top of my list for a bike under £600.

I ended up buying second hand but the component parts on this bike are very good for the price!

Second hand Boardman. Usually a few knocking about from Ride 2 Work scheme buyers. Probably the best bank for buck in this price range.

I got my Orange for £500 last year, it was a few grands worth of bits new. You shouldn't even need to shop for that long, as there's a lot out there

Voodoo Bizango from Halfords. Price is £600 but with some cheeky voucher code action, I paid £426. When the cash from Quidco comes back in a couple of weeks the grand total will be £401. Details are in this thread here

I've ridden it quite a bit since I bought it and I'm chuffed to bits. The fork is superb (although I'm no expert) and the mechs are excellent. The only snag I've had so far is spectacularly falling off on Sunday on the Ridgeway going too fast down hill and slamming on the anchors to avoid a dog that appeared out of nowhere. I'm not sure how I missed it but thankfully me, the dog and the bike were all fine

Pauls Cycles. Just got a nice Cube ltd for a neighbour for just over £600. Lovely bike for the money. He's chuffed and a major upgrade to his Dawes !!

Seems like a decent bike for £300.

there are some bargains around though, I bought a cannondale sl5 with a rockshox reba and full deore XT setup for £370 less than 3 months old!

17" is a small frame I believe? How tall are you?
