Half way up Tourmalet and then this happens

Two week old bike so presumably a manufacturing fault. Better for it to go half way up than half way down though, it went when stopping from walking pace. You can't really plan for that sort of failure so the remainder of the trip had to be abandoned.

Most likely the bulk of the damage was already done and the final break didn't take much. Having completed a number of fast descents over the week prior it was just good fortune that it didn't cause significant injury.

You can also see that it has gone at the stress point where the brake caliper mounts which makes you wonder if it is a design fault, but have come across no other failures of this type in searches so it seems like a one-off.

If there could be said to have been a motto for the trip it was 'fk you BikeHut'. That said, we came to an amicable agreement with the vendor upon return.
