Is there a thread running in here on ebikes? Just got a Cyclotricity 700c front drive kit with a 10Ah battery. Didn't want to go over 250w/15mph and make it illegal so stuck with a cheap kit, seems to get good reviews.
Fitted it to my commuter hybrid today and just took it out for a shake down.
Pretty easy to fit, few problems with the thumb throttle getting in the way of the shifters/brakes but just about got it comfortable now. Rack mounted battery rattles a bit but nothing intolerable, made up for by the way it locks in place with the an ignition key. Fork dropout had to be opened up by 0.5mm to allow the axle and anti-rotation washer to be a snug fit - didn't want it spinning out.
Surprised by how much difference 250w makes to pedalling effort. On the flat into a head wind, head down and you're not working. From the off at traffic lights just a quick pedal and then open the throttle, picks up nice and quick. Hoping to get 18 mile round trip from one charge, seems possible going by the available info' on power/range.
Motor slows noticeably on hills but a bit of input from me and what used to be a long slog uphill passes easily. Hoping this will get me to work a little less sweaty and in better time, 15mph steady and a few blasts when I hit the downhill bits will be better than pedalling it all.
Got a Nano kit for my Brompton too but haven't got round to fitting it all on yet, keeping that for the Spring.
