Whilst I do love my 911 I think Porsche missed a few tricks with the GTS2 which in theory could easily be rectified. Though possibly unnecessary and certainly expensive, what does the PH collective think of this as an upgrade plan:

Aluminium doors from GT3/Cayman R to replace standard steel ones (incl fabric door pulls - loved them on my Cayman R). Save a few kilos but is it easy to do?
Carbon Fibre bucket seats ditto (to replace heated sports seats) - if anyone wants to swap let me know.

Would like a LSD too but believe this is not possible as a retro fit, from Porsche at least. The passive dampers on the CR were good too. Not sure how easy it is to upgrade/change PASM.

As I posted on another thread, the ideal 911 for me would be a 911GTS Aero manual with bucket seats and a nice set of 3 way Ohlins.

the issues is resale as it's 6k for the seats and 4k for the shocks, so 10k in on top on a £65k car.
Hence keeping my R :-)

shame they did not make a R 911 but then PASM is on GT3's which is a bit pants imo. So a R 911 would have been faster than a GT3 !!

It does seem ODD Porsche went all out on the Cayman R fitting passive dampers, which just seem to work a treat.

as for the door pulls yes, you can buy a retro fit pack $600

Even the highest spec FIA carbon race seats wouldn't cost £2k a pair - why waste £6k on Porsche ones?

Erm - wrong. £3999 + VAT each for these (£4275 + VAT if you want the large one. Sparco also have one in the same ballpark, as do others)

As for why - I am sure that MrDemon has his reasons and revealing them will start an argument with someone, so left unsaid is fine... wink

The Recaro P 1300 GT is the top of the pile FIA seat at the moment.

A shade over £6000 per seat incl vat.

I suspect that there's more track day attendees slower because of 2 way/3way shocks than are faster because of them.

Your second comment is interesting. Can you justify your thinking there?
I'm taking your "R 911" as being a GTS aero manual with carbon buckets and 3 way Ohlins. Is this right?

Nice one.

And ok ok it's *possible* to go nuts and spend a fortune on FIA carbon seats if you insist but let's face it - the *vast* majority of race seats are far cheaper than the Porsche ones.

I fitted 3 ways to my track car and was loads faster, getting fastest time of the day in a timed event, then it rained
I adjusted my shocks(well just the rears, dial out a bit of bump) and then also got fastest wet time.
then on the road I adjusted my rebound only and it made for a nice B road car.
also just one click here and there and you dial your car in, or dial that under steer out.
I loved the adjustability, it's not that hard to learn what to do.

now because of that I would have said like for like geo and tyres a GTS with 3 ways set up right would lap faster than the same model GT3 with PASM and also the shorter ratios do help a lot here on the GTS esp on the road.
taking out the euro power circuits like Spa and the ring of course.

I have a test where a power pack 911 is faster to 90mph in a drag race than the 997.1 RS just because of the gear ratio's

then on the road the GTS would be the nicer faster car on a B road also, again ratio's and having a more road bias set up on the 3ways. on a B road it's very hard to rev out in 3rd with a GT3 to get to the power, not many B roads will get you to 130mph
most are 90mph affairs and the GT3 at 90mph vs the GTS at 90MPH I have to put money on the GTS set up right :-) to get from A to B.

the 997.2 GT3 RS is the only car with shorter ratio's and the only real working aero, the cream of the bunch imo but the only one I have still not driven.

you have to ask why Porsche in their best car fitted shorter ratio's :-)

i'll quote you from your words 2 years ago
"in combination with that engine the cars is always cooking. this highlights the benefits of the short ratios"
this was regarding shorter ratios in a cup car

also what was interesting was I said 2 years back in that thread the GT3 would be PDK, (thought I would quote it back lol)

and then in your defence you could only post this
"You got unrestricted one way only B roads round by you? " lol every one who owns a GT3 breaks the speed limit.

then to quote another racer in that thread

"It's such a shame. it's a superior chasis blighted by PASM. A 997 fitted with passive would be substantially quicker"

thoughts ;-) keep it on topic :-)

you state shorter ratio's work better, Steve Rance states a passive set up would be much faster.

As the GTS would gain from both ratios and dampers, can you really say a GT3 would be faster ?
not that any of this is possible to prove this time

of course you see many GT3 with 3 ways, and you can fit a different final drive gear, so that moves the GT3's game on again.

How strange, I could've sworn at some point in the dim and distant past, you implied the Ohlins, Alcons and Manthey kit fitted to my car were "pointless bling" confused
I doubt it. :-)

I'v often thought a GTS with a GT3 engine would be a tremendous car and I doubt I'm alone

Interesting stuff thanks. Not sure I'm up to adjusting suspension, even if I were a track fiend (which I'm not). So possibly a geo set up would be more useful.

Nobody seems to be jumping up and down with enthusiasm for a LSD and since, as I say, track days aren't really my thing, I guess it's not vitally important. It's used for Continental hooning mostly, particularly around Austria, and I certainly wouldn't want to add to any understeer, if indeed that is the likely outcome of adding a locking diff.

In fact none of my suggestions are vitally important. It's just that I notice the weight of the doors in comparison to the CR, and I always loved the carbon fibre buckets seats - the most comfortable I've ever had in a car.

Wasn't aware of the difference in gearing between the Carreras and GT cars, but if true I must say I find that rather pleasing. Perhaps the GTS is the base of a truly great car.
