Morning all,

Just going through the process of getting a new car. The insurance company insist on a Tracker being fitted, however, I have had no experience of these before. So..........which one should I go for ?

Check with your insurance company whether you need a GPS based tracker - most seem to insist on these nowadays. If so you can go for a Tracker Horizon (this incorporates the police car tracking system as well as a GPS based tracking system) for about £700 (I have this one fitted to my car) or an RAC Trackstar system for about £600 (cheaper if you're an RAC member).

I got the Tracker Horizon - this means that if your car is nicked the cops know exactly where it is. The system also doesn't rely on you knowing the car was nicked or the car's alarm going off.

I know this because although I switched OFF the alarm Tracker called me within minutes when the car was low-loader transported back to the dealer for some work!

It works. It is expensive though....depending on whether you buy a subscrption to the service for all-time (i.e. however long you own the car) or annually. If you plan on keeping the car for only a couple of years annually is cheapest.

I bought the wrong subscrption and will have overpaid slightly...but hell...no-one's nicked it!
