Brands Hatch Britcar race and open on Saturday
Discussion
Anyone here going?
I'll be in the CSL in the open and an E36 M3 in the Britcar night race. Come and cheer us on!
I could put a pistonheads sticker on the car (if the blummin things had turned up from the e-shop...)
Look out for this car..

Yup, we'll be there with the Volvo for Piers and Don, hoping for another wet/dry race. The misfire is now cured, so Piers will be on the attack!
No TVR in the Open race this time though, sadly.
Good looking E36, by the way. By the stickers I'd guess it's been racing in the VLN this year?

Sure has. It is the car that Phil Bennett used in the Nurburgring 24hrs (where it broke quite early on) Was 2 seconds a lap faster than Willie Moore's car at testing in Zolder last week....
Phil and Mike Richardson are racing with it against Tony Rodriguez and me in the open, so hopefully it isn't that fast....
See you on Saturday Ahonen!
An addition to the programme...
Our illustrious team boss, Mr John Griffiths, has decided to compete in the Open races this weekend after such a successful time at Donington. His partner for the day will be Mr Steve Hyde, 2004 Eclipse driver of some repute and the only man to have driven a Morgan twice at Le Mans in recent years.
The pair will be pedalling a Topcats Racing two-seat Tuscan Challenge car. This could be quite entertaining - expect to see the car travelling rather faster than usual and probably at some interesting angles, too.
I hope Steve doesn't get too downhearted when "Gilles" Griffiths gets into his stride...
Steve @ Eclipse.

Steve @ Eclipse.
Stickers arrived and were duly placed on both cars.
I will post some pictures when I can find out who took them.
Interesting day.
Was running 5th at one point in the Open race and was consistently the 5th fastest car in the wet and changeable condtion, but an electrical gremlin (a coil pack was breaking down causing the car to go into limp mode) meant we ended up 12th, but the CSL was fast and the 50kgs it has shead since Donington really pays. I really ought to lose some tonnage...
In the Britcar in the German E36, my co-driver Phil Bennett did a an astounding job. He is a world class driver and showed it by leading the field (which included the Rouse pedalled DTM Merc). I set the qualifying time and stuck it 4th on the grid which was very pleasing as it was a class 2 car... Phil had a hour long duel with Cuff (a very fast wet weather hero) in his similar E36 (with a suspected 30bhp power advantage over us!) and brought the car in .2second ahead. I then knew that I would nhot be able to stay with Cuff (who drove the entire race) and settled for second by stroking the car home. Phil had "used" most of the tyres and the brake pedal was very long, but my major gaffe was the lights...Being my first night race I was unfamiliar with the amount of illumination you should get in deepest darkest Kent with filty headlamps. I was using the chasing cars headlamps to pick out marker boards etc as the BMW lights were so poor. All became clear when I ended the race as the dip /main stalk had bounced back to dipped for the entire session. When I flashed the team on the final lap I was astounded quite how good the main beam and aux lights were. What a pillock! Wouldn't have kept Cuff behind though...
A pleasing result nonetheless.

The Dailysportscar.com write-up says you had "an impressive performance".
Guy, any chance of posting or emailing an abstact from the site as i can't log in...
Impressive in the CSL, a bit of a muppet in the E36 (apart from the qualifying).

Bad form old boy, I don't want to disrespect DSC's copyright (especially as the ed and dep ed visit here).
The same reports that Steve Wood supplies DSC usually appear (legitimately) elsewhere on the net and in print.

Steve @ Eclipse.
Yeah, he was was quite good. Took the CSL about three laps to pass him!
ahem.
Ha ha - yes, it wasn't really the barnstorming performance I was expecting out of those two... Tuscans can be truly horrible things in the wet even if, like Steve, you've been successful in them in the past. As Nige proved, a nice, soft, easy to drive car was the thing to have on Saturday, which is why he was the fastest bloke on the track - in a rather elderly production spec E36 M3 - for much of the first race, outpacing all the GT cars...
No giant-killing from the Volvo this time either. A BMW turned in on him at Stirlings on lap one of the night race and they went off, together with a SuperTouring Honda. After that the steering was a country mile out and it pulled heavily in different directions under acceleration/braking. Several stops later the car was brought home carefully, but unclassified.
Not a particularly satisfying end to the year, but Britcar's still an enjoyable bit of fun and I'm sure I'll remain involved a little next year.
