I was sitting at Edinburgh Haymarket station last week waiting for a train when the announcer said:

"The 16:37 Virgin Express to Inverness will depart on time. The 16:39 GNER service to Aberdeen will depart on time. I heard a song about this. Two words: Blue Moon"

Weel it made me smile.

From the Register, this morning : -

Wireless LAN hot spots are to be created at 15 mainline railway stations across the UK.

Ryan Jarvis, chief executive of Megabeam, told us the price of access at rail stations will be dependent on what additional services, such as VPN access to corporate intranets, on offer.

Diplomatically, he declined to answer our query about whether its revenues would be hit by better timekeeping on the railways...

You can bet the charging structure is going to sh1t on private individuals/small businessmen. I mean... charging depending on whether you want to use a VPN to the office? How does that work? Does a VPN use expensive electrons or something? Gimp.

(I'm in a fine mood today, having got food poisoning of some sort from somewhere. I'm supposed to be on the train to london to go and earn some money, but can't leave the house. Bloody marvellous.)
