I've only ridden it three or four times, so I'm not overly familiar with it. I've not been up there since about November, I reckon, and looking at it in that photo, I'm glad I haven't bothered with the 8 mile ride to get there from Farnborough, and the 8 mile trek home.

For me to get in a lap of the Red Trail, it totals about 24 miles all in (minimum) so I'll wait for the weather to break before I haul my fat carcass up there again.

Ah, that's a shame - mate of mine picked up a Charge Hi-Cooker today and we were planning a spin over there in Sunday, might have to go for a bimble around the Chilterns instead....

I know the said the other weeks to take a look at tank traps to see why they had closed it off. I wonder how the rest of the trails are holding up? I really need to get out on the bike but this weather is not a motivator.

On the trail-team faceache page there is a list of trails that are closed due to flooding/maintenance/protect the trail in the bad weather - looks like a lot of closures unless you want to ride the fireroads or the Crowethorn Woods side - but I would imagine that will be just as boggy.....

We know it as tank traps due to the concrete lumps at the end of it. It the section of gully the you drop into and then zigzag down it to a main fireroad.

It's the only bit of the Red Trail that I actually remember the name of. I was moaning about muppets shortcutting the 'zig-zag' element of it, and effectively 'straight-lining' through the gulley last time I rode it. There'd even been tape put up to discourage the idiots, but enough of them had beaten a path through the shortcuts to put me off the proper line.

I wish folk would stick to the well-trodden path, and not just make their own lines up. If you're not quick enough on Strava, FFS train and practice to get better, not 'cheat' your way to faster segment times by cutting off technical corners.

yeah I know what you mean, I got caught out as well night riding. Mind you there are a lot if Muppets who ride there, breaking bumps everywhere. If they learnt to ride properly and not skid all the time.

Several of the sections on both red and blue have been closed for the past few weeks, with tanks traps being one of them. Makes sense really given how cut up the trails that are open are getting at the moment. there are still enough open to string a decent ride but its pretty muddy in all the way round.
