I'm looking to add a sport exhaust system to my 96P Chimaera4.0. I'm not looking at improving performance or removing the cat's, this is purely a "grunt" thing (wife). I've spoken to several places and had quotes from £350 to £600.
So any help/advice you (that's the royal"you") can give, especially contact names/number would be welcome.

I have looked at old post's but none seem to have any suggestions of where to purchase.

TdF.

If noise is your thing there are some cheaper options that don't involve a whole new system.

The first seems to be to leave the baffles in but get all the sound absorbtion wadding taken out. I have this, and it makes the whole thing much growlier and more aggressive, but not too much louder.

Then there's the option of making the rear pipes into a straight through arrangement. I believe Apache and DDonnan have this done. Much louder, deeper, altogether more evil.

Both options are not much over 100 quid from Offord (Cambridgeshire), and plenty of other people will do the same thing for around the same money.

What about if you want pops and bangs, ala 4.5 Cerbera with sports exhaust, from a Chimaera, is it possible or have I just got to take the plunge and get a Cerbera
I want it to scare small children on the overrun

!! I think the pops are engine related. All the S6's and AJPs do it with normal exhausts.

Followed a 4.5 Cerbie for a bit back from Goodwood yesterday. It obviously didn't have a standard exhaust and pop 'n' banged liken a good 'un. I think it sounded better than the wedge!!

Yep thats what I've got, must one of the highest grins per £ ever.

Most places will do it, if you want a listen and are anywhere near Cambridge give me a shout.

PS Marshy I thought you were getting yours done?

Do you get pops and bangs on the overrun, or I am after the impossible with the Rover V8

My 350i pops 'n' bangs since I fitted a new stainless exhaust. To be honest the car did when I first got it, but once I have fixed the various problems with the fuel injection, new cam etc the noises on over-run went away (a bit disapointing - but the car did drive a lot better!!).

Now I have the best of both worlds!

Even my halfway house conversion (Chimaera 500) pops and bangs on the overrun. There's a particularly satisfying loud pop on the change from 1st to 2nd if you get the revs right.

Thing is I'm currently suffering from 'Sparing partners got a new car syndrom' Now I'm following a 4.5 Cerbera with sports exhausts everywhere my Chimaera's gone quite What conversions have you had done, I don't really want the tug boat chug on tick over, just pop, pop, crackle, bang every time I change down a gear

I've got a similar conversion to Marshy on my Chimaera 4.0 (both done at Offord). It makes some outrageous noises on the overrun and seems to get better the hotter the car is.

Was about £130 for the conversion I think.

Well even Offord's website reminds of the noisy bugger I'm trying to keep up with (the cerbera on the left)
What exactly have they done, as I've got an exhaust specialist just up the road from me who will make whatever I ask them to Just not sure what to ask for

I have a 3-qtr exhaust fitted on my P-reg 4.0HC Chimaera. Steve Howard from Thames Valley Racetech (0118-972-3153) fitted it for me last summer. Not too expensive - just the other side of £100. It's a straight-through arrangement. Steve fit the full pipes, and it sounded a bit OTT, for my taste. Takes them out, saws off a quarter, tried again...sounds perfect! A richer exhaust note, the over-run is more pronounced, and when you get your gear changes right, feather the gas pedal a bit, the burble is just...just...well, believe me, it's LUVVLY!

Now I am convinced I am MAD

Funnily enough I was thinking about getting some sort of sports exhaust for my Tuscan. I've read about ramming a couple of tubes down the tail pipes, but am a bit concerned about what I've heard about that causing damage to the cats. So, I have started to think about having the cats removed - what does this involve? Will I need the engine retuned? If so, is this a big job? Secondly, some sort of silencer (I suppose the are necessary!) - any suggestions?

I too want the crackles and pops, and also a loud, deep rumble!

I'm getting a local company to look into tuscan can erlpacmements within the next two weeks .. will let you know what they say cost wise. I want some in nice polished stainless cos the carbon look just doesn't do it for me, plus more noise would be nice :-)

Speaking of popping and banging, has anyone had to replace the cat because of this (being unburnt fuel and all)?

I've been trying to avoid it (can't afford a new cat at the momeny) but it's so much fun. I also get a large pop when going 1st to 2nd with just the right revs. Often wondered if this actually produces a flame out the back.

Flasher was muttering about getting a bespoke exhaust for the Tamora, from Haywood and Scott. Has anyone else had this done. I certainly would like the Tamora to sound more noisy - it does pop and bang nicely, but it's quiet and a bit muffled. Any thoughts, anyone on how to release the noise? The Tamora exhaust is a bit different, with it's large back box...
