the Pike Peaks Toyota Celica was the most impressive car there. 2.1 ltr celica engine running 50psi boost = 850bhp. You had to see it go to believe it!

But no ability to stop or corner, unlike the Celica!

"Power is nothing without control", as the saying goes.

Some of the dragsters were road legal - had tax and plates... just had big lumps and nitrous...!

(therefore assume it will go round a corner like any other American barge)

let's not get into the "American sportscar" discussion... I do not need to know a million other phrases for "a contradiction in terms"

It was one of those rare experiences in life when the entire crowd could be seen mouthing "F***" when it went by and considering Jensen Button was about 10 cars earlier in the F1, that's pretty special.

I managed to get the Pikes Peak Celica on video and it still looks just as impressive on tape as in real-life. I might get around to posting it on the web, but my connection's a bit slow and I'm not quite sure how to. Anyway Rod Millen (guy in the Celica) was the star driver for me. Considering he'd never been to the event before, to then post fastest time of the day on Saturday and Sunday is awesome. Respect to Gerry Marshall too for giving it large at all times!

The other car that seemed to get a universal reaction was the totally bonkers V10, F1 Engined, BMW X5. Everytime it passed, wherever I was, people just errupted in laughter at the sheer madness of the concept.

And respect is due to Allan McNish. Yes it's fantastic fun to see F1 cars do repeated burnouts & donuts, but what a spectacle to see McNish just nail the Toyota up the hill. Does anyone know if they actually confirmed his (record beating) 41 second run?

Dont think they did confirm - the timer was not going so they could only estimate - shame!

I thought the time was 41.2 sec for McNish, although as it wasn't a competition run he's not eligible for the hill record.

Either way, he looked like he was going bloody quickly!

The Timed Results can be downloaded from the Goodwood website. Although McNish was unofficially fastest, Rod Millen in the Pikes peak Toyota got FTD with a best of 47.4 seconds. Martin Stretton (not known for being slow) did 48.1 seconds in the Tyrrell P35. Justin law in the jaguar XJR10 did a best of 49.21. The Morgan Aero 8 LM GT did a best of 56.0 seconds, but sounded great

Saw someone's Chip with Pistonheads sticker in back - sad but was pleased! can't remember.
Thought it was the best day yet at Goodwood (only been there last three years). Only problem I'd say is that there were (ironically) too many people this year. I still maintain though that this is the best motorsporting event that I go to... and yes, before some smart alec says, I go to quite a few in the year! :P
In the Amirmal Codrington for lunch tomorrow if anyone there!
Have fun all!

I went the first year and it was brilliant. No hay bales F1 cars etc going has your feet and hardly anyone there. It's too commercialised now which is such a shame but it's still fab. Next year I'm going to get the full corporate hospitality and go on my motorbike
