Hi all,

I need to change the front discs and pads on my 997.2 . I still have warranty on the car until June this year. If I replace the discs and pads myself would this affect my current warranty and if I extended it when it’s up for renewal?

Thanks in advance

I suggest you replace them with OE ones though as non standard parts can invalidate the warranty.

eurocarparts have a 30% off offer at the moment but does anyone have an idea of what make Porsche use . The list Pagid and Trw on there but doesn't state which are OEM.

Also what will I need in total to change them. They list sensors and Dampening Plates. Is there anything else other than the discs and pads?

you might get away with it,

last time I did it I had to replace all the dampers.

You'll need a calliper fitting kit.

I've found a replacement package from design911 which includes

2 x Brake Disc
1 set x Brake Pads
2 x Brake wear sensors
8 x Brake Pad Shims

Is this all I need ?

Thanks

Yes that should be enough, you should be able to use the existing fitting kit again on a vehicle as new as yours, the damping plates will either be in total 4 plates or 8 smaller round discs, usually the it's the larger 4 plates on the fronts but where your ordering them from should confirm this, you should ask them just in case rather than go by the website.

What is a caliper fitting kit?

Out of interest I asked an OPC for a quote to change the pads and discs, front and rear, my 997. It was £2200.

I have found all of the parts on Euro carparks for just over £500. I was going to fit them myself but I don't know what a caliper fitting kit is. Am I missing something?

its not a kit, it just has more parts some you may or may not use.

as I have just stated, it's not a kit, just has all the parts in one order

are you fitting genuine porsche discs and pads.?

I had a quote for the parts from an porsche and it was around £1500. They said it needs to be porsche parts or my warranty will be invalidated

I was hoping Eurocarparts was genuine parts. I have a service due in march and the warranty is due for renewal in June.

Does anyone know which parts are genuine in eurpcarparts as they list pagid and TRW makes. Or do OPC use either or?

OPC will only use their own branded discs and pads and probably not the ones sold at eurocar parts.

question is, will saving £800 be worth invalidating your warranty? The warranty states you must use OPC for everything, so if you're going to risk doing it yourself at least use porsche parts.

if you do decide to risk it, let me know how you get on

Euro parts are OEM if stated.

I have ran my GT3 on Euro discs (all round) with Performance Friction pads. Two warranty renewals, no problem.

Texstar make the discs for both Euro and Porsche. Same discs, different box. 2200 for a discs and pads all round fitted. That's a joke!

Hope this helps,
Stevie

As a guide - my last front discs were 107.00 ea + VAT with pads available from 120.00 (OEM) and PF08 at 260
