What road bike up to £1k?

So never had a road bike before and after doing the London to Cambridge ride on my MTB I have decided that I need all the help I can!
I just want something that I can use to do some winter finiteness on a turbo trainer and get out in the evenings when the weather gets better.

Infinite choice from cheap mail order carbon to every branded alu. Last years mag fave was Giant Defy 1 Alu, not read any mags this year.

Am going to go for an Alu defy as a winter bike, unless I change my mind between now and when I get it which is very possible.

What about a Whyte Dorset? Bit of a left-field suggestion, but maybe a bit more comfortable and robust as a fitness bike with more appropriate gearing than the more 'flighty' bikes that everyone normally suggests.

I was limited to Halfords with my c2w scheme so got the boardman team carbon. I'm only about 60 miles in but I love it. I came from a mtb with road tyres so it's a bit of a jump but it's ultra stiff, pretty light at 8.5 kg and I wouldn't want tk change anything on it just yet

Halfords can get more than Boardman. A friend got a defy ordered in on C2W.

There have been a few threads on this. Do a search.

Also, go and do a bit of research your self. Just typing in 'bicycle shops' into google brings up Cycle Surgery and they have several branches round the country and they will do bikes round your budget. This will bring up several bikes and you could then come on here with those bikes and you might find a slightly better response.

My 2P's worth is go and have a look at the Planet X Pro Carbon. Plenty of people like them and they are good value. Even if you want to junk the frame in the future, the groupset is still good (SRAM Force or Shimano Ultegra).

Ali Giant Defy and the Cube Agrees are worth a look too. I ride a Giant Defy 2 and its been pretty good even though the only original item left is the frame, seat, bars and stem. It was still a good base though

They can order in from a few other companies but I really liked the boardman. The other bikes I looked at were above the £1k budget as well. My first impressions are that it's a great bike for the money, not that I have ridden much in the price range as a comparison but I'm well pleased with it.

My offering...Trigon get fantastic reviews and yes I'm bias as I have the RQC-27 with Sram Force and I can't wait until the better weather to take it out again.

Some great deals out at the moment , wish I could stretch to another bike , but with two teenagers and a baby on the way I cant justify it
