I've gone over the highway code, which is a bit ambiguous for this situation.

Which lane should I be in, L1 or L2, if I approached roundabout 1 (R1) with the intention to take roundabout two (R2) in lane three, first exit?

My assumption is Lane 1 > Lane 3. Motoring opinion seems to be split between that route, and Lane 2 > Lane 3 whenever I use the roundabouts with other motorists. I was wondering if you would be so kind to let me know what your opinion would be please?

I'd say lane 1 to lane 3 myself, but then again it would depend what I see when sat in my car, but I can see it degenerating into a bit of a free for all at rush hour and what is wrong with the good old fashioned junction, roundabouts, mini or otherwise, really shouldn't be used like this.

A quick sign which showed lane 1 as left turn only would take any ambiguity out of the situation, but without that sign I take lane one as "Left, or straight over to option 2 on the exit".

It's horrendous during rush hour and just as bad heading the other way. I had an incident the other night where a car was alongside me, he started in lane 2, ended up behind me in lane 3 on the horn and flashing. This is what prompted me to start the discussion.
Next time I won't be crossing the roundabout at the same time as anyone, regardless of lane position!
(Pictures are deceiving, there is quite a wide area between the first two roundabouts).

Yep, this extra sign (or road markings) would be the ideal solution. There's a couple like this in Poole.
