New Bike

Wanted to thank all the PHers who helped me choose the right bike;

It's a Boardman Mountain Bike Comp, and I am loving it :-D

I gather like me, you've just got into it and this is your first 'proper' MTB?

I started about 7 months ago and most recently have got some clip-in shoes and pedals. I find I'm using much less energy and generating much more power with them.

I'm gonna carry on into the summer and save up for a full suspension as my skill improves!

Any recommendations on cages and bottles please - one or two?

Thanks, yes I was torn between the Bizango and this, 29 or 26 inch, but the lower weight swayed me on this.

This was at £649.99 but Jan sale meant it was 20% off and was available for £519.99, I did get the BC 10% voucher and this brought the price down to what I felt was a bargain £467.99

I am not sure how you can get 20% off though!

How is the Bizango going?

I have just bought a CB Hybrid - picked up last Sunday = hopefully get out on it this weekend - but I am a fair weather rider!

Bottles are for racers. Get a camelback mule from merlins. Keep your drink clean and crap free. Also room for tools and a phone.

When I got it from Halfords it was reasonably well set up by the kid there, it was on the stand being assembled, last bike off the line for them. I only had to reroute the back brake hose. Firstly the setup is aggressive if I may say so, but my previous bike was a 20" folding bike, so it was a quantum leap for me! But my work mate, thought (before I bought it) that it was an aggressive geometry. I am between 5'9" and 5'10" but not powerfully built like a company director as I am not one, and at the lowest seat setting the 18" Medium frame is just about right. The riding position encourages you to throw your weight on the front handlebars. I bought the bikehut shock pump to adjust the air fork, and after a few runs along a bumpy and badly cambered bike path, the kid there said it was on about maximum pressure and he likes it that way - whatever. It felt like a rock and the movement was like zero, not 120mm. I felt like I might be thrown off the bumps. Got the pressure down to 90psi from 120psi - I weigh around 68Kg, the ride had improved but still not enough sag. Got it to 80psi and it seems to soak up the bumps OK. Obviously this is at fully open, and you have many clicks to fully closed and there is a rebound setting to play with. I rode it around an hour and 30mins or so, tuning the front forks, getting used to the gears and so on. But I was riding in Jeans and it got painful :O You definitely need proper cycle pants and gloves - any recommendations, like normal trousers please?

I think it is pretty fast and accelerates well, brakes are good, nice and progressive, even did an emergency stop to save a baby lab that was trying to sniff my tyres Gears, Sram X5 are also not bad. Hope it helps, will do a better review, once I go down to somewhere without too many dogs etc

There seems to be a mass boardman buy up. Cycle to work seems to work wonders.

I just got a boardman team carbon road bike and I'm in love. I have already had a near miss with a late turning van which left me flapping to get on the brakes. It is taking a bit of getting used to but I'm already smashing PB's without giving it some welly. I am taking it out on Sunday for a 30 mile ride which will be my longest ride, hopefully that will break me in to the bike.

Love the colour scheme on that one, almost the opposite of my mine!

Firstly, they look st and scream 'NOOB' if you care about such things, on a more practical note they know 90% of riders will ditch them at the first opportunity and they only fit cheap ones to comply with some rule or others - even if you buy a 8"+ full on DH bike they come with all the reflectors (usually in a little bag).

Most importantly though, they'll all, snap break and fall off littering the country side within a few miles.

+1 for the camelbak, chuck your keys and everything in there, because you don't want to be falling on them, it really hurts.
