at last in a position to start the motor.....then the only major job is to make the bonnet fit before vic check and on the road............................................................................... however....did a compression check as the motor has nor turned for 3 years and found the compressions woefull.....worst 50 and best 110. Now trying to free off the (probably) seized piston rings. I do NOT want to lift the body back off and strip the engine

Have you primed the bores & had oil circulating around the engine before doing the compression test?
( Apologies if teaching how to suck eggs )
If you have, & the readings are still low with oil in the bores, then you could try squirting a generous dose of Redex into each spark plug hole, & leave to soak for a few days.
Nothing to lose by trying.
After leaving to soak, put some rags adjacent to each plug hole & turn the engine over on the starter to blow out the muck from the cylinders.
It used to be an old trick for a quick de-coke.
It would be adviseable to change the engine oil after this procedure, in case of oil dilution.

I had a problem with sticky rings on a Triumph Vitesse which had been standing. It was chucking out tons of blue smoke. I used a can of Wynns engine flush and this did the trick. As Glen says, I changed the oil straight afterwards. I have also cleared sticky hydraulic tappets on Rover V8 engines in the same manner.

I know Tony, it's quite a common GTS thing, hence Joe's concern when he could only see one bog roll in the spares pack.I'm suprised that more peeps haven't adopted my mod.

We have already poured a mix of plusgas and redex in through the spark plug holes. Will leave in 'til Monday and repeat after spinning it over. We have spun to get oil pressure and also it ran for 3 or 4 seconds before the EDIS unit failed.
