Badge dilema

As part of my re-build project, I've made a rank amateur error and had the paintwork done without checking that the replacement badges actually fit the holes in the bootlid.

As below, the badge pins don't align with the holes....





The holes in the boot are original, The 'Mexico' script has been custom made to match the 'Maserati' script but neither fit the original holes.

Question is whether I should re-drill the bootlid and have it repainted (risking a colour mis-match), get the badges modified with the pins relocated, or cut one pin off and secure with the remaining and 3M double sided tape?

Can't you cut/grind off the fixing pegs carefully - de-burr them - fit them directly in to holes in bootlid - cover area with protective film and get some industrial grade bonding adhesive to affix pegs to rear of casting ?

Looks like you would have to remove both studs on the Maserati one as the one on the right it at the top of the 't'. If you kept the badge straight using the first stud, you'd see second hole.
Having had a quick browse, I take it other badges that might fit the holes are not easily available?

I think that's going to be the preferred route, I'll lay them over and see where they can be positioned to cover the surplus holes.

It's just one of those bloody things that's best thought through without just attacking it with drills / grinders...

I had a similar issue a few years ago so just cut off the pins and stuck the badges on. I've since sold the car but I know the new owner and afaik the badges are still where I put them.

How do think mainstream manufacturers fit badges, double sided tape.

It worked for the One-Point-Five wing script on my Riley; done for exactly the same reason.

Great, I'll have to do that on the 'vignale' rear 1/4 badges anyway.

The double sided tape used by car manufacturers is normally a closed cell VHB tape.........3M do a few types, thickness and colour.

If you use tape, i would imports ome genuine 3M automotive tape from US ebay. it's expensive but simply has no peer - once stuck, it's stuck.
2 sided tape I've bought in the UK with automotive promises is pants.

You don't need to import it, there's plenty of 3m vhb tape agents in the uk. BDK near Ipswich are one I know that are agents.

Explain what your doing they might even send you a cut off from a roll gratis

Imported or not - Use 3M tape and none other if you decide to tape the badges on!

I've used it on car badges in the past and they have remained stuck fast to the cars for years on end with no issues whatsoever (just make sure the surface that the badge in going onto is clean and don't touch the adhesive on the tape with your fingers!).
