5,000miles - realistic?
Discussion
Not too hard
I ride to work and back most days and do some racing on the track and got 5,000mile this year work shifts for 7 months as well which stopped me riding to work (12hr shifts) last year I did 9,000 worked days all year and rode to work and raced on the road and track.
So t is not too hard
5,000 per year equals 417 per month, 96 per week, and 14 per day (for round numbers)

Really depends if you're commuting, that helps get a lot if miles in.
I was on course for over 5k this year but cracked the frame on my good bike in early Oct, it took an age to sort out and my winter bike was in bits so I was on the MTB more which limits miles. Then I was ill and didn't ride for 2 weeks, I've only done 450 miles in the last 3 months, 4200 total for the year.
My aim was to do a century ride every month, I managed it up until June. July and August I had stuff on every weekend and then other things got in the way after that.

5000 miles (or 8000kms!) should be doable given your circumstances, if work is home, why not get an early morning "commute" in during the summer months if you can find a good quiet 10-15 mile route to ride before work. 50 miles a week, 200+ a month.... then just throw in a good long ride (sportive/audax for inspiration) at the weekend and you'll rack up the miles.
Definitely doable...
I started riding in April and steadily increased the amount I've been doing month by month, week by week as my fitness level climbed.
I'm about to hit 3k miles for the year, a thousand of that has been the last five weeks.
300 of that is this week (including tomorrows sportive).
By contrast I did just over 300 miles in April may and June all together...

I'd say it is realistic, the group I ride in have all done between 6,000 and 11,000 miles. Some never commute and have just done weekends and the odd midweek ride.
I have done around 10,500 miles this year but that includes commuting, racing and weekend rides, I'm lucky enough to be in a club that has a 20-30 mile commute route on a Tues and Thurs that allows people to drop off as they pass their work. The people that work from home just do the whole lap. 30 miles done and back home for 8.30am.
Is there anything like that local to you?
