I don't know how long my Nitrons were on the car before i bought it, but they functioned ok in damping tests and showed no signs of leaks or outright wear. Also following a full geo set up at Centre Gravity the car handled a lot better, but i was advised to have the dampers serviced .....
Seeing as they they looked very tired and in probable need of a service (Nitron recommend a service every 12k miles) .. I thought it also wise to refresh / service the dampers and springs at Nitron in Witney.

They went from looking like this:

to this:

with 2 damper rods replaced (minor pitting / corrosion), new valving, reoiling, regassing, 1 new bearing end cap, 4 new bump stops, 4 new springs, fitting kit. Adjustors now indexing (before they only 'clicked' (ish) in going from soft to hard ..

It appears that my Nitrons were ~10 years old evidenced by a different valving (jet size) ....>10 years ago Nitron just had one set up for their NTR1 ....now they have a set up for road and a different valving set up for Track , albeit using the same springs .....now 400lb/in FR and 325 rear. My springs were 375 FR and 300 rear (although they had a few years life in them , i opted for new springs at the new poundage ..and shiny colour !) .
All the replacement valving / re jetting / new seals was done with no charge .....so essentially i have a near new set of dampers/springs to the spec that are sold today ...at less than half the cost.

Highly impressed with their service, communication and attention to detail.

Sam (the extremely helpful Nitron technician) commented that the oil was very old / dirty and contained Nitrogen from internal seal leakage ...

I can't wait to feel the effect of 'as new' dampers / springs together with some new Leven drop links ...and then another Geo set up with Chris at CG.

Very impressive, I guess you could not question their attention to detail and after sales service!

Nitrons next for me then when my 2 years old Gaz Gold Pros get a bit tired.

Mattus I'm just taking mine off now to send off as part of the winter refurb, did you have to take the springs off or did you send them as per the picture?
Cheers Benn.

Yup, you can return as an assembled unit smile; a good idea to give them a quick clean if they are really dirty ....otherewise they may charge £10/unit for an initial clean.

Hi Mattus

Thanks for posting this, my Nitrons gave been on my Tam for a few years now, and despite them looking ok I was thinking of getting mine refurbished in the new year. Out of interest how much did it cost?

Thanks

Matt

Would like to know the costs as well. Why are you shy to publish them here?

HI Wolfgang ..
The std servicing cost is £65 + vat per shock. New springs are on the Nitron website.
Hope it helps.

Dam you Matt! Was meaning to get around to doing this but your post shimmy'd me along.

Been sat under the car for the past 24 hrs trying to get the passenger shocks off! Bolts are firmly stuck in place, nuts are off, but bolts just spin, can only assume that the spacers have corroded onto the bolts. Another try this evening after a days constant WD40'ing, fingers crossed they'll come loose.

Ooops , sorry Benn wobble...I feel your pain ... I had the same problems on the rears .....the bolts on the upper wishbone were solid ...I soaked them with acetone / gear oil (50/50) ...and with the aid of a 2kg mallet managed to ease them out ....just takes time !!

have fun and a happy new year !

Good luck Ben but don't go hitting your fingers with the new lump hammer.

Ha don't worry Don, I had a James Mortimer to wield the hammer for me!

Well, it finally gave up the will to stay on this evening, combination of impact wrench and mallet and it came free.
So all 4 shocks off, heading off to Nitron tomorrow, Spark cover and fuel rail off for polishing or plating, upper front wishbones off to get their bushes changed whilst they're off and seats and steering wheel up at Dave the Trimmer being refurbed. I have one sad looking Tuscan in the garage.

I am sure it will be worth it in the end and fully ready for Rally For Heroes 2014!

Well that took just under two weeks!

Before

And After

Didn't fancy the turquoise springs so went for the graphite grey ones. Absolutely cracking service (excuse the pun) from Nitron!

I think Nitron send new shocks to all.
If i see at the old corroded ones, servicing
looks too expensive!
