I know it will say this in the manual but that is downstairs in the cold car park. So how do I stop the car assuming that I always want the AC on. Even if the controls are set for hot you have to manually switch the econ button every time you start up. Obviously this is a pain as I usually forget and therefore end up burning more fuel. It hasnt always done this so I am assuming I have done something wrong !

Cheers

That's odd, I press my "econ" button and it stays on until I switch it off, it doesn't have to be pressed every time I start the car!

Another 3200 idiosyncracy (sp?).

I dont believe the fan setting has a corelation to the switching of the AC compressor. The switching is done via the Econ button and is either switched "In" or "out" as to the state of the drive connection to the pulley. Mechanically I know exactly whats going on. Its these bloody process controls !!

As I mentioned above, Ian, I pressed mine about 3 weeks ago and it's been set ever since - no need to press every time I start up.

You must have a dodgy button.

I had problems with a dodgy ASR button which meant the anti skid would turn itself off suddenly (usually in the wet, around a bend ) but I took it in and they sorted it.

You have intelligent a / c.( climate control )
To regulate the temperature your a / c compressor is required to be active. Set the temperature to 22-26 c with an outside temperature of 15 c and your compressor will be virtually inactive
Econ only regulates higher than refrigerated temperatures but will deliver air that is not purified, contains humidity and will therefore leave the occupants less than refreshed after a long journey.
Leaving your a / c engaged is cheaper than having a window / roof open.
