Extend the warranty or not ?
Discussion
I tok a risk and turned down the £600 extended warranty on my 86k W reg 535i. 2 months in so far so good. However, last year I had a replacement radiator, 2 front wheel bearings and various ABS/DSC bits including new computer replaced on warranty which must have been a tad pricey. (ABS/DSC problem turned out to be a loose connection on fusebox!!!)
One thing in that prays on my mind is the local main dealer has completely failed to make the rain sensor work after five tries. They hold their hands up and admit to having no idea. So the existing warranty has not been a lot of use so far. Agree that it would aid resale, but I don’t plan to sell it in the next year. I suppose the real question is if you do claim do they usually cite the wear and tare clause like the other insurers.
How much is peace of mind worth to you ?. I extended the warranty on my Beemer for 2 years. First year I had an ABS sensor replaced, the second year I had a boot lock, front shock, exhaust manifold and rear suspension bushes - that came out of an inspection II service, so I would have been looking at about £1000 all in if I didn't have the warranty.

What is the opinion on buying the fourth year warranty. They want 600 quid to renew on my 38k 530d. Seems to me that I would be surprised to spend £600 on work other than servicing. What is the wise choice hand over the cash or keep it in my wallet ?
Depends. If you think your car is a real shed, and you think it will go wrong more than 600 quids worth in a
year, keep the warranty.
Me, I had a long look at the list of warrenty exclusions, and decided that if it went wrong,
I'd be paying for it.
Long term, if it goes wrong, I won't buy another BMW
anyway.
Four years old isn't old for a BMW.
