Interview with HMRC.
Discussion
As the title says. I have been invited to a job interview for an apprenticeship with HMRC.
Well they say it's an apprenticeship, It's a proper wage, not £100 a week.
It's my first 'proper' job interview ever, at 22.
Other jobs I've gotten through friends/knowing the interviewer.
In short - What is the best way to get through an interview without f
king it up?

Try and relax.
Don't answer the questions with yes and no or overly short answers.
If they ask you a question and you don't have a frame of reference from your working life then don't be afraid to use an example from other parts of your life. For example, "Tell me about a time when you had to deal with a difficult colleague". You could tell them about the w
ker on your 5 aside football team.
Show enthusiasm for the role and company. You will have to put your game face on to show how much you love being TAXED!:
Good luck

What area of HMRC is the interview for?
HMRC is a gigantic operation which not only covers the obvious taxes - Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax, Corporation Tax and VAT - but also great swaths of business and personal regulation - such as the Working Time Directive, National Minimum Wage, Tax Credits, Employer Immigration Regulation, Customs and Duties, Land Fill rules, certain Benefits etc.

If you are asked "tell me about...?" or "describe an experience ...?" remember to structure your answers, makes much more impact.
STAR
S - Situation, what was the problem or the event
T - Task - what was YOUR personal activity to meet the challenge
A - What did you do ?
R - Result, what was the outcome, goal achieved, money saved, sale made - what happened.
So as a (pretty weak example)
"Tell me about a time when you had to influence someone to get what you wanted?"
Answer,
" The situation was when I was working as an intern, we had a deadline to meet, but some of the data I needed was with another office.
My Task was to collect that data, adjust it for our report and provide some basic analysis, for which the really wasn't enough time to do.
I called the other office and persuaded one of the team over thereto make the report into our format and use the data to answer some of our questions. I need to infulence their manager to make sure it could be done within the timeframe. This left me enough time to collate all the other information for the presentation.
as a result delivered the report and presentation on time and as a result I was commended by the MD.. etc
Cheers for all the advice everyone! I will take it on board. The interview is on the 10th.

This is the feedback I got from the sift, I don't know what they're rated out of, but they seem good enough?

Remember that they might ask questions that ask for clarification on anything your wrote in the application.
Make sure you review what you wrote so you at least have some idea of what might be asked.
...and if you made up stuff in the application you'll at least remember what lies you spun so you don't give them a quizzical look when they ask you about the time you took a bullet for the Queen

Remember the final test will be if they call you back after the interview. Do NOT answer your phone, ever, except to put them on hold for another hour.
When you eventually speak to them huff a lot and make out like you're doing them a favour by speaking to them and tell them they are very fortunate that you won't take things further…this time…
They'll employ you on the spot.
