I am thinking about designing a new independent state, a state without plonkers, tw@ts, bLiars, numpties, etc.

A state to the requirements of free thinking people, a state which has a constitution that lets common democracies look ridiculous (thats the easiest part)

The terrain of that state should be a new island, to avoid hassle with existing ethnic groups.

specification sheet:

all year temperature range 15°C...35°C
there should be an oilfield nearby, to secure a proper budget for next decades
should not be to small, thinking of 50 inhabitants per 1km²
at least 200 meters beach/inhabitant
some hundereds of miles highways, that let the expression 'Autobahn' let appear ridiculous
more universities than administration buildings
some mountains wouldn't be bad for serpentine roads
...

Funnily enough I was going to have a rant to that effect last night but didn't have time. Anyone got an island going spare?

another idea from the MILE SET TO FADE AWAY AND DIE thread:

switch from right hand traffic to left hand traffic every 24hrs. - to sort the numpties out

If its going to be a sunny island there is no problem with which side to drive on etc. Everyone drives in the shade.....

It's cold.

Unless it's beer, if it's cold, it sucks...

Why do you think I got the hell out of the Nooorf?

How about kicking all the numpties / politicians (or anyone who wants to be a politician) / timewasters (except contractors ?) / MPowder boys etc out of the UK and electing Ted as president ? That should leave enough room for the rest of us to enjoy ourselves. It may not be as warm as some places but at least we get a variety of weather.

I enjoy going for a slide in the wet / snow !

How 'bout an armed take over of New Zealand south island? Say the word and I'll go out and start stockpiling...

Yep! New Zealand does it!

But not with an armed take over - you've been to long to LA!

Apart from the climate, NZ has 14 inhabitants per sq. km compared to UK's 241 So the chance to meet a numpty is 17 times lesser there!

The South Island seems to be PH land, because there only lives a 3rd of the population of North Island - but it's bigger than North/I!

Life expectancy is one year higher than in the UK, so you win a lot, 'cos time is money!

Maybe Esprit-George can give some information about South Island's climate, and arrange the first PH arrival?

Yup, I've been here too long, and New Zealand certainly seem attractive now... At least I can be relatively certain that the policemen aren't going to be punching people in the face...

Nah, in Alabama they just burn your house/church and then hang you, no foolin' around with the lesser stuff...

I can personally vouch for NZ's South Island as PH heaven. Two weeks there was not enough. And next time instead of hiring a Z3 I'm going to ship my TVR there...bugger the cost....

Just wonderful...

Well guys, sounds like planning is well underway. Far be it for me to be supporting terrorist acts here, but maybe you guys could use me on the inside to lay the foundations for invasion on the beachhead! However be prepared coz' over here "Nova boy" doesn't drive a Nova.... he drives a VR4 Galant, or a GSR Lancer, or a GTSt Skyline..... more than a match for my lowly TR7 I'm afraid..... that is unless one of you guys could bring a spare AJP8 or Griff 500 lump over on your way out
But yes, as much as I despise the place (NZ in general) the south island (although on the whole a little colder than the north, especially in winter) is definitely more of a PH land than the north. I live in Christchurch (pop 380,000 i think) which is a reasonable size (2nd-3rd biggest city in NZ). Apart from that, there's Dunedin at around 100,000 down south, then there's Invercargill, Nelson, Blenheim at around 20,000-50,000 each, then Kaikoura, Oamaru and about 10 other towns at around 10-000 people and under... with the rest of the settlements being not much more than a PH pie-stop. There's LOTS of roads to get the adrenalin pumping (chch is FLAT, but within 15 minutes, i can be thrashing the TR around one of about 10 different mountain roads) and he climate is passable, definitely drier than Blighty, but not more than a degree or two warmer on average.
The downsides are that the country is practically run by the green party (minority party that has a coalition government with the Labour party) and basically consists of policies that think that the car is evil and polluting, that genetic engineering is evil, that and if they had their way, marijuana would be legal (which is supported mby a large amount of the NZ public because they all seem to smoke the stuff..... which explains their appalling driving, extreme paranoia, lack of sense of humour and why the girls are attracted to cars that go "PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHH" (what you all know as the blow-off-valve or dump-valve is known over here as the "skank whistle"). The crime rate over here is MUCH worse than in Blighty when you consider we've only got 3.6 million people to commit them with and then there's the natives (the 17% of the population that fills 75% of the nations prisons) who seem to think that it's their right to anything and everything in NZ becuse they were here first (although having said that, most of them live in the north island).
Well I'll wrap it up for now but if you all have any more questions I'd be pleased to answer them.
Oh and one final reminder, you might want to bring your own fuel. the "jungle juice" we get over here is nasty stuff., we have 2 grades here: 91 and 96 octane, with the 96 coming through most independent fuel tests with a verified octane of about 93 and the 91 about 88.

Keep me posted

Your man on the inside.

George.

Sorry I'm in this late, what's wrong with ice racing, had a go in go karts with nails in the tyres at a ski resort last year, absolutely fantastic.

Make sure your island has got some mountains
