Gallardo or 550 or Modifed 996 TT
Discussion
Hopefully my insurance settlement will be through on my new gt3 which was stolen a few weeks back.
In the position of looking at the following, would appreciate feedback of owners of the following cars which i've shortlisted. Obviously these cars differs - and each have their own merits
choices:
Gallardo - manual or e-gear, any probs so far?
Ferrari 550 - running costs?
Techart 540 bhp Twin Turbo (Manu's) - drove this, unbelievable power
thanks

Big price difference between first and second.
I drive a 550 (come from a GT3RS) but from your choice, I'd honestly go for the Gallardo.
I'd imagine my 550 to be a better handling car (not driven a Gallardo) but the Lambo has SO much road presence it's unreal.
One thing I will be wary of is depreciation on a Gallardo. There are so many of them on the used market now it can't be good for resale.
The TT, no doubt is fast, but lacks that je ne sais quoi.
550 provides me with tonnes of charm, but I'd expect it to be more fragile than the others!

I can get a LHD Gallardo (Manual or E-Gear) LHD off the continent for 69k, so it's not that different in terms of price.
Know what you mean about lack of je ne sais quoi on the Porsche, Cem. Fantastically quick - but haven't got that burning desire to be in a Porsche again
Would be good to see your 550 if there's any meets soon - would also like to discuss a web requirement i have

A properly sorted TechArt spec 996tt, right?
The one with 540(+)bhp...I've been told by Tech9 that the real world torque on this modification puts it into Nardo-spec RUF territory, i.e. unfeasibly, pant-wettingly quick.
With a little attention to the suspension set up and one or two internal house doctorings, the on track performance would be only a modicum less devastating than it's virtually unchallenged on road supremacy and basically, you must know it makes compelling sense!
If I wasn't so illogically obsessed with my own beetle, I'd be on the phone to his Manuship right now!
P.S. Jon - I'd be grateful if you could palm off a quick resume of your thoughts on this car, whatever you decide. Cheers, DeR.

Drove Manu's 996 Tech9/Techart 540+ bhp car on Sunday. It really is an immaculate example. Awaiting the full spec being faxed tomorrow - but the car was devastatingly quick. Estimate around 0 - 100 in 8 seconds, making it quicker than a F40.
What amazed me, was how quick the car was above 100. Much, much, much quicker than my SL55 AMG and would knock spots off the old 360 i had.
I've been banned before, and think one of the only reasons i'd maybe not buy it is it is too quick

Taking into account running costs, future depreciation and sheer ground covering hoonage potential. I can't see how you can go wrong with the already significantly depreciated mechanically modded 996 turbo.
As far as it being too fast is concerned what is this concept of which you speak? If you are going to do enough to lose your licence in the Porsche you will surely do the same in the Lambo or Ferrari. ie if your licence is a deciding factory buy a Trabant or a Smart!
Many people complain on various forums that you see too many turbos about. Well if you live or work in a wealthy area that's hardly surprising. Last time I checked Porsche build 6 times as many 996 turbos as Ferrari did 550/575s annually. When you take into account average depreciation for 2years of £24k on the turbo and £60k+ for the 550 or 575 it's hardly surprising which one sells more.
Good luck with your decision and make sure you drive one of each before breaking out the chequebook.

(Can't imagine anyone's surprised with my "unbiased" viewpoint. )
Oh, and if it doesn't have scissor doors it ain't a Lambo!!! Miura excluded obviously......... runs for cover.
