OK, I'm going to bite. The pic is of two military fast-jets in fighting wing formation. They don't show up on Flightradar 24 due to the type of air-traffic transponder/IFF used on the jets.

I can't believe the article mentioned UFOs. FFS...

You were correct with 'non-story' in your OP. Moron photographs aeroplanes in the sky, journalist morons deem it worthy of a 'news' story filled with uninformed sensationalist bks.

In Sky news tomorrow: bus photographed in Gateshead with incorrect number plate. Alien invasion imminent?

Flight radar 24 omits quite a bit of air traffic. A lot of biz jets don'#t show up on it either - and all those aeroplanes that don't have transponders.

Yes, it only shows aircraft with an ADS-B transponder with encoded GPS data on Flightradar 24, Eric.

I don't think that is 100% the case. Even if you have ads-b and enc gps, some aircraft do not show up. You can request to be omitted from things like FR24.

I suppose it would be in certain operators' interest not to be displayed smile

Biz jet operators can be very secretive.

There have been quite a lot of military flights around the North East over the past couple of weeks, and plenty on Monday too. I think I read that there is a major training exercise in progress so I assume the activity is related to that.

Nothing from this planet to get over excited about.

yes I may or may not know of some people who fly low level VFR to a different airport before filing an IFR flight plan to take them home, just so it isn't obvious where they are going (or where they've been).

I don't blame them the movements of the CEO could be enough to give people the jitters if it varies from the norm too much.

Ah, those'll be the special type that require no airfield facilities then! Sounds like a Dail Mail quote!

I post my landscape photos on flickr and had one with some vapour trails visible in an early morning sky.

One chap wrote a long and involved comment on how they were chem trails and we were all at risk.

Needless to say the banhammer was deployed.
