3200gt & smell of burning rubber
Discussion
Hi everyone. Recently taken delivery of 02 Asseto Corsa. Just had it back from the dealers after 2 weeks of 'warranty' work and I am getting a definate smell of burning rubber (and its not the tyres!) after working it at higher revs. Is this normal or is something else about to go? FYI car has done 16k miles.
Hi,
Sure it's burning rubber and not just the whiff of clutch? (Sorry - not suggesting you don't know the difference I'm sure - but every now and again when I'm driving enthusiastically it's easy to let the clutch slip a little and it doesn't half pong...)
Failing that probably worth checking under the bonnet for heses lying on the engine etc? Not heard of any 'they all do that' kind of issues relating to burning rubber smells myself.
How are you finding the car otherwise?

I said rubber as the smell was very reminiscent of the belt burning on a vacuum cleaner when the brushes get stuck - God I am domesticated NOT! Could the clutch then hey - more care needed with the pedals then!
Otherwise car is great and doesn't fail to attract attention and comments from the most unlikely people. One of the best yet was from a female petrol pump cashier, who, when approached to pay the bill said "how did you manage to get so much fuel in that little car?!"

class! drinks the stuff pretty quickly!
re the clutch (if it is that making the smell) I find that pulling away in 1st is best done with little or no throttle (so much torque it won't stall!) then dropping the hammer. It also give people a head start at the lights
P.S. Great colour choice BTW!

Another consideration is that if they have cleaned the engine or replaced the exhaust, you will get a burning smell not disimillar to rubber, but very faint. This will dissapear after around 50 miles for engine clean, and maybe 200 for an exhaust change. Maybe I am strange but quite like the smell of a new exhaust bedding itself in.
