Modern day sports classic, which one???
Discussion
OK boys and girls...
If you were in the market for something different, something with a bit of punch, something with character, as a second car, something that would be usable without costing ridiculous amounts of money to buy and to maintain, what would you choose from the below?....or something similar that I haven't thought of??
* Lancia Delta Integrale
* BMW E30 M3
* Audi Quattro
* Renault Alpine GTA
* Porsche 928 S4

Do you mean as a usable everyday car? or a 2nd usuable car but not used everyday on the daily grind commute type car?
Given the budget that it would take to get really top examples of the above, I'd spend it on a decent '73 911 RS replica.
I'd be scared to own an Integrale for fear of impending mechanical doom.
Tho a decent Quattro, would have to be on the list too, oh and a decent Caterham, oh and a mint Mk1 Golf Gti oh and a....etc etc etc

It won't be used for commuting but used quite often, say about 8K a year, most weathers, outside with or without a cover, as a second sports motor, something fun, something that can get me from A-B, often. Reckon no more than 10K should cover it...
I remember seeing a Lancia once with a Ferrari engine in it!!! Any good???

For 10k I'd look at:
- rwd: porsche 968, merc c36 amg
- fwd: corrado VR6
- 4wd: audi s3, s4
I'm swinging towards the E30 M3, was going to buy one of these a few years back so still have lot's of information around on running costs and edition differences....T.
T, E30 M3 - no question. To own one at some point should be a right of passage for any petrolhead, wonderful cars. Circa £8k should get you a 'proper' example which should be able to stand up to the type of abuse you'd dish out Not sure about having it parked on the street as they are a bit nickable - but what isn't these days? Fancy a trip to Munich Legends (www.munichlegends.co.uk/homepage.html) to check one out? They've got a '90 Evo Sport for £10.5k. Give me a shout and we can nip up and check it out if you like.

How about a 944 Turbo? More tuning potential than the 968 and cheaper, so more money to spend on upgrades

The good ones are holding their money better than the E36 M3's!! Will chat soon fella, thanks for the offer. T.

I'd be inclined to stay clear of *really* cheap ones and stay in the £8k+ bracket. A concours, late EVO II Sport or limited edition can command over £20k so that gives an indication of the price spread these cars have (as well as the regard with which they are held by enthuisiasts).
Not all models were Sports in '90 I think, sure it was an optional model but desirable nonetheless. £6k does sound suspiciously cheap though - I'd wager its at least showing very high mileage. You ditching the 406 then?

Know what you mean though...But I have seen some lovely examples with low mileage going for less than £10K, I'm not too bothered about it being pristine, it's gonna be used and you know me, how much fun am I gonna have with those back wheels ..Can't lose too much on it either and at those prices, who cares after a year or two??? Would like one though, was so close getting one one time.....I'm gonna dig out all my old docs and websites and see running costs again.

The 406??...I nearly killed myself in it yesterday, I keep falling asleep at the wheel , I'd be dead already if it was an auto!! Will keep it though, cost 1 and a half for a 99 2.0, FSH with all the bits, can't complain, don't care what happens to it.
