I'm not a militant cyclist, and I will use suitable cycle paths when they are safer than the alternative. I cycle to work daily, and ride into Southampton next to the A33 (a main road, 3 lanes wide in each direction)
Imagine my frustration when cycling along the cycle path to be met with this SSE van, blocking the path.
I took the picture after I passed, having had to dismount and step onto the A33 against the flow of traffic.
Very frustrating.

Swing and miss...Annoying OP, but what else they gunna do? Hop onto road, hope back to path, job jobbed. If I posted about every obstruction I see in the cycle lane daily in London there would be no room for any other threads on this forum

It is indeed a designated cycle path. Using the road there is not an option. It's nominally a 50 limit, but speeds average around 60, with all 3 lanes used by lorries going to/from the docks as well as buses and cars who would not expect a cyclist on that road, due to it have a well signposted and well used cycle path to one side.It is shared with pedestrian pavement in some sections, but there are very few (I have never seen one) pedestrians walking between Totton and Southampton.

Impressive that you can tell what a path is designated at by just looking at it...He has said its a path OK for cycles, not every town as painted them blue ffs, he's also said its a 3 lane road, i.e. basically a motorway!

The majority of cycle paths/lanes in the Thames Valley are a bit of a joke, I can only guess the local councils have some sort of target to hit in terms of cycle lanes per square mile or some such utter waste of time!
There are quite a few in my area, and to be fair some are probably useful for local kids going from a housing estate to a local school, but the majority of them are an utter waste of time!
There is a long cycle path along the A30 from Bagshot most of the way to Egham - full of road debris, exposed drain covers, subsidence, and at the moment about 3" of soggy leaves - never maintained and more dangerous than riding on the main part of the carriageway!
Another lane in Windsor lasts for all of 10 ft (must take a photo next time I am passing), several are a mix of congested pavements and fairly major roads - usually better off riding on the main road and making sure you are well illuminated and in a position to be noticed by Mike the Motorist!
If a motorist parked in a cycle lane near me their rotting flesh would attract attention before someone complained that they were blocking a cycle path!!!

I work in an industry where I have guys all over the country blocking footpaths maintaining infrastructure. We have a strict code of conduct regarding this sort of operation and this is very wrong. Take aside the location of the path, its designed as such that a double buggy, motability scooter or wheel chair can use without restriction.
Where would they go if the encountered this?
If I was commuting I would probably just shrug it off, but If I had my work head on I would make sure that SSE got a copy of the picture mentioning the helpful chaps at HSE!
Rode to work today, 20 miles and witnessed the following:
Cement Lorry heading the wrong way down a 1 way street (cycle path runs along road)
Van heading the wrong way down another 1 way street (even after I pointed it out to him)
A car undertaking a learner in a 30, by going into a bus lane.
A car towing a small trailer with a flat tyre, and smoke pouring off it.
I get a bit wound up when cyclist are constantly moaned about, yet in 20 miles I witnessed all the above.

that's parked up lorry, no driver in site, fully blocking a cycle path with no way round it. its also double yellow lines
