Looking through various online classified ads this weekend, there does appear to more high mileage examples for sale than I've seen before. 60, 70 and 80,000 milers. Nice to see some owners getting good enjoyment out of their motors. Most of the showroom queens seem to have sold recently, so let's hope this current crop find good enthusiastic homes soon.

It still seems to be the garage queens that sell fastest, but it beats me how a car that has done 5,000 miles a year is regarded as "high mileage". These are not frail cars that require regular engine rebuilds. Yes, parts do wear out and when they do they are not cheap, but cars that are hardly used can be even more trouble.Edited by 550M on Monday 18th November 10:51

Spot on !the 456 is basically a detuned 550 engine - about 40bhp less I think, so should handle the higher mileages even easier.
I know of one 456 that has exceeded 100k miles now
regular use actually makes them run better - so my concern would not be the higher mileage with this example - more concerned about the lack of miles in the last few years

rardleys has got a blue 456 with a few miles on it, whats the verdict on that one......? i reckon that for me to get into something like this i need to look at the "higher" mileage of the end of the market.....
Oof! That's a *lot* of motorcar for the money

436 bhp @ 6250rpm vs. 485bhp @ 7000rpm
and
406 ft·lb @ 4500rpm vs. 419 ft·lb @ 5000 rpm

I'll second someone else's point that my only concern would be that it hasn't been driven a great deal lately. If it were me buying, I'd try and get an extra 3 months of warranty thrown in by Rardley (bringing it to 6 months total) then drive it in a spirited manner for the first few weeks of ownership to make sure anything that was on the verge of going actually went before the warranty was up

As much as I'd like 550 prices to go through the roof, that is not worth £46k, and I dread to think what the prev owner was bid for it.Gassing Station | Ferrari V12 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
