After "enjoying" a ride today with rather too much of the wrong kind of adrenaline I have concluded the stock Bontrager tyres on my Trek are, as the wordsmiths who write product reviews might say, f
king st.
Road conditions aren't great. It's cold, damp and the roads already have a nice layer of salt on them, with whatever molasses or whatever it is they add to the salt to make it stick, plus whatever biological effluent and vegetation the local farming community are dragging all over the place. However, Marc Marquez style cornering on the road bike, without a semblance of control I might add, is deeply, deeply, uncool.
I dropped the pressures in the tyres slightly after my ride yesterday. Today was a little more moist and the only pressure worth a mention was that of my nipsy attempting to gain some purchase on the saddle, as if that's going to help.
Recommend me some winter tyres please people. I'm old enough to die and ugly enough for facial injuries not to matter, but for god's sake think of the bike; it's a nice one.

+1 - but, aside from my Open Corsa's they are the only tyres I have punctured this year. My fave winter tyre is the Vredestein Fortezza Quattro Tricomp, currently on 1/2 price sale in Ribble. They are are slick profile in the middle with a mottled effect on the shoulders and small 'water channels' - personally cannot recommend them highly enough.

FWIW, I'm running 95psi (I'm 70kg).

Nothing beyond the year, width and colours. IIRC the current ones are called "Open Pave CG", have green sidewalls and are available in 25mm or 27mm widths. Up until this year, they were 24mm, had the "Evo" in the name and had a green centre tread with black sidewalls.TheLemming said:

I'll happily recommend the Continental Grand Prix 4Seasons tyres to anyone willing to listen. I've run them with no p********, nor any other issues, all through this summer and into November so far, and they did good service last year too, although I stopped riding in the October. Probably now upwards of 2,000 miles on the set, 1,300 of those miles since May this year. I've had to swap them front to back to even out the tyre wear, and one of them looks like it's close to needing a replacement, but it'll be replaced like-for-like, not with any other brand/type.
The 4Seasons are so good that at no point this summer did I feel the need to fit my 'summer' Schwalbe Ultremos, despite the fact that I had a pair sitting waiting in the garage.
All I need now is for this bloody head cold to bugger off and I can put even more miles under them.
