Headset

Hi all

Need some help as I can't shift this headache due to info overload, seriously.

I've won a rock shox Reba sus fork on ebay tonight to upgrade my carrera Vulcan suspension and I've just realised the fork I've own is tapered and my fork is untapered. Now I believe that there are special adapters to convert your bore of your bike so that it's 1.5 inch at the bottom and 1 1/8 inch at the top but I'm struggling to find one. Does anyone know if this is doable?

If your current frame/fork is a regular 1 1/8", your new tapered fork won't fit.

Yep, you can fit a straight fork into a tapered frame but not the other way round. Sorry.

No.

Your head tube is sized for 1 1/8" wide steerers. You're wanting to fit a steerer that, at its widest, is 1 1/2" wide. It isn't going to happen.

Hi jimbo, thanks for your reply I really appreciate it. That looked like a conversion headset to me as it looks as though it goes into the tube and is wider at the bottoms but maybe this isn't the case. It's so confusing as some site seem to suggest it can be done and others that it can't be ill stick to pistonheads. I've had enough for 1 night.

If your bike has a zero stack headset it should be possible if you run a crane creek xx44 headset.

However, if you are running an external headset cup then I don't think it is possible.

Edit just checked google and it looks like the Vulcan may use a ZS headset set so you may be in luck - check your frame though.
