Thought you guys maybe interested in my car - a 1953 Daimler DE36. My Grandad bought me the car back in 2003 and kept it in his own car collection. I'd never really taken much notice of the car as I was 21 at the time of purchase and was more into Hot Hatches etc but now I have spent more time with it, I appreciate what a car it is.

Looking at the history, this is what I found:
This Daimler started life with Sir Arthur James Elvin (registration plate reads AJE1 to match his name) who in 1927 was the managing director of Wembley Stadium and later was awarded an MBE as well as a knighthood. Sir Arthur insisted that he be able to wear his top hat whilst sat in the back of his Daimler Limousine, so the roof was raised by 1.75 inches by the coachbuilders - making this limousine extremely rare. The car almost did not exist as when Sir Arthur visited the coachbuilders all of the cars had been allocated. Sir Arthur was able to persuade them to add another car to the production run making this one effectively the 11th car built out of a planned run of 10.
Just thought you may be interested to hear a story about an old Daimler

Thanks for the replies. I am joining the Daimler and Lanchester owners club. I have been talking to Kevin Bennett and the car is featured in the latest magazine.
I have been wrestling with my head and heart and I currently have it for sale as I am retaining a Bentley that my Grandad had, I have so little time to keep this one going
I am led to believe that these are a rare car so thought people maybe interested in it's existence and the interesting story behind it.
Also, it amazes me how the pre-select liquid flywheel gearbox works in practice, you can keep your DSG gearbox - this one still works 60 years on!

Steering is very low geared and a thin rimmed steering wheel means tight corners need respect. Stopping seems to be ok, don't get me wrong, I wouldn't drive it briskly but it will and does stop!
As I posted, It just takes a little bit more forward planning than a modern car does! - The advantage of that though is that you tend to get a more relaxed drive which makes the whole event even more enjoyable!
