coil pack just fitted and now this

My 05 997 Had a coil pack recently fitted at a local indy, on a 60mile round trip this weekend , it lost some power and was running like a bag of s**t, (engine light on)
the car had a mayor service incl spark plugs 6 months ago,
just wondering if the problem is related to the recent work, its never had any running probs that I know of, or could it just be coincidence and something else is the problem

Apart from the cost, nothing much to worry about, apparently these fail.

My 996 had three replaced by a previous owner.

Likely related to the heat they have to contend with in that location?

R you talking about the plugs as the coil pack was only done a couple of weeks ago

The car has 6 coil packs so hopefully just another one gone. My indie replaced all 6 prophylactically because they were corroded, but it could, of course, be something else.......

Your guess is as good as anyone's. No-one can tell without investigating further. It's not the radio however

Are you sure? You do know that they are individually called coil packs? There are 6 coil packs.

Just dug out the Receipt, Mother rocker as you had me thinking there . coil pack set 6 in Qty .
6 AT £45 A throw, total bill £400, so yes looks like all of them . One side of the exhaust sounds defo a lot different to the other, its really missing like mad.
Do hope its just electrical

I had the same. Each bank has a couple of sensors, cam and valve I think, get them to switch them over and see if prob moves, will need to read with a dura metric to see where the misfires happen.

Could be related to the recent work. When something unexpected shows up generally the last thing touched is the first thing suspect. Could be a bad coil or coils. They can fail at any time.

But it could just be coincidence and something else is amiss.

Regardless without the codes it is impossible to offer anything more than WAGs. Even if a WAG is right on someone has to get his hands dirty to fix the problem.

I had the same problem recently, albeit on a flat 6 Subaru engine. It turned out to be a loose connection on one of the coilpacks.

Took the car to get some petrol tonight, as there was prob not enough to get me to the Indie next week , And No Orange Light and engine seems to be running ok , never had Porsche down as being a bit temperamental, any ideas again,

I have an 02 996 targa. When you take out the airbox for any reason you have to disconnect a plug-in electrical connection on it. On occasion, having put everything back, when I started it the engine light would come on. Sometimes it would go out by itself and sometimes not. But putting two and two together the last time it happened, I took the plug out blew it through with compressed air, cleaned up what I could see of the contacts and pushed it home very firmly. The problem never re-appeared. I wonder if you have had the same thing or similar. I also bought one of those diagnostic plug ins and it is really good

What fuel do you use ? Some people don't realise you should be using at least 98 Ron. We've had numerous cases of these sorts of things clearing up after switching to shell vmax which is 99 Ron.

I usually put any super unleaded fuel in it, but the car was playing up towards the end of a tank of super unleaded,
