Ok I`m thinking of getting an electronic drum kit. Does anybody on here have any experience of entry level ones. I looked at a Carlsbro Add501 http://www.carlsbro.com/products/add-501/1/5/6/5/ today and was impressed, but the 400 quid price tag puts me off the other one I keep finding on the net is the Alesis dm6 http://www.gear4music.com/Drums-and-Percussion/Ale... but this is £309 and quite a few coming up on ebay second hand. I`m wondering if the used ones are because people upgrade fairly quickly or give up. If its the former I`d rather pay a bit more to start with and have one for a few years. Any help appreciated.

Buy cheap, pay twice!

Try and save up for a second hand Roland, you want something that is comfortable to play, and sounds like a real drum kit.

I'd recommend a Roland TD3 at the very least. This is a decent kit with a mesh snare and a proper shaped hi hat. Rubber pads are fine for the toms around the kit but they are pants if used for the snare and hi hats as they don't have a good response or feeling. You should be able to pick up a used kit for £300-£400 depending on if you require a stool and bass drum pedal as well. Be careful buying online because sometimes these items won't be included.

Always try to buy the best you can afford because if you buy cheap you'll possibly hate playing it and probably give up or else you'll decide to upgrade but no-one will be interested in your old stuff because it's rubbish. Roland kits will always hold their value against anything else on the market.

If you have any specific questions then please ask here or PM me. I used to use a TD3 as my practise kit and I'm now using a TD30KV for live performances.

Thanks for the info but I`ve now bought a Session pro DD505 second hand from ebay. But hopefully I`ll up grade to something better when I improve my playing as its all new to me. But it doesn`t seem to bad apart from the hi hat that's a bit crap tbh.
