Thanks for all the posts, I checked out DOD's dehumidifier which got me on the right road and ended up buying a Meaco's DD8L Junior desiccant unit, which is not a compressor type model.
I spoke to a company called Carcovershop who were actually using the same model and told me that it is basic but good and at a good price of £164 to your door. I was looking at £260 to £300 models. The cost for running it is slightly more then a compressor model. It should be run continuously and switches itself off when the target is reached then samples 30 mins later and turns on again if required.
I was concerned about the size of the garage as it is 140m3 and wanted to make sure it was up to the job. It has been running now for 2 days and has taken 8 ltrs of water out of the garage. One thing I was told was that the more air tight the garage is the better and mine is well sealed, with a false ceiling.
It features auto start if there is a power failure, and the power returns, timer up to 8 hours if you want, it will turn off when the tank is full, can be run to an outside wall for a permanent drain which I will do when it reaches the 50% humidity. Various fan speeds and humidity levels.
being the desiccant type it heats the garage to a very nice temperature, I have bar heaters fitted around the walls which only manage to take the chill off it.
