Does anyone have any experience of, or advice on, shipping a car to Sydney. Would only be for a couple of weeks.

How long does it take and how much does it cost?

Any reputable transporters?

I work as an accountant for a freight forwarders. Call our office & ask for Eamonn Ashton (our Export Manager). He should be able to give you an idea of cost.

Erm,

I think 6-10weeks each way & £10k is a bit wide of the mark. If we could get away with charging that much, I'd be driving a 360

Talked to my freight jonny, he insists that containered from any EU port to AUS would take a MINIMUM of 6 weeks and cost around 15000 Euros round trip...... OK german overpricing perhaps, but do you want to send it with the latvian navy or croatian airways? I assume it's something special otherwise no-one would send a car to AUS for 2-3 weeks......

Just bought a container back from Oz took approx 9 weeks door to door, cost aus $2500 = insurance at 3.5% of value shipped. shipping to Oz will take similar time but cost a bit more. customs clearance times may add to this. to do it quicker you have to use airfreight

Many thanks for all the helpful responses.

Especially Neal!

I'll have to consider the pros & cons of doing this quite carefully - planning to visit the outlaws with my wife in the near future - would be fantastic if I could drive my own car (996 C4) instead of a Toyota Camry from Budget rent-a-car.

However, increases the cost of the holiday significantly , but might be worth it for the novelty.
They drive on the same side of the road as us, too!

Have you thought about buying something over there, assuming you want to blat about you can easily pick up a camper or something for next to nothing. When you get to Sydney just duck into a backpacker hostel and there will be loads of adverts for things from manki combis through pretty top nick Toyata's.

Use for the duration of the holiday and then flog it on at the end, you can easily lose no money doing that. Also, when it comes to 4x4s Toyotas rule in Australia, certainly I found it much easier to get spares etc when needed which is worth thinking about for when you are outside the major cities and towns.
