Future Road Trip
Discussion
Ok, spring is a long time away, and the gt3 is estimated to come in April. Either way im already planning a route to take it on.
After thinking about it for a while ive came up with this:
http://goo.gl/maps/5meuE
Its basically:
Day 1 Start at Calais and head for the Nurbergring for the 13:00-17:00 session.
From there Stuttgart for the Porsche museum - hopefully same day - sleep there
Day 2 Leave Stuttgart and head for Milan doing Stelvio Pass on the way. Have dinner at Milan
Day 3 Alessandria, Italy for the German Auto Rail putting the car on the train and going to Dusseldorf, Germany
Perhaps a bit of a rest day here
Day 4 Spa, Belgium
Day 5 - Home, London
The idea here is not to be “tired” each time at the track, while still getting a feel for a europe road trip. Taking the train to get that rest day and then to have a ful energy at Spa
The furthest ive gone is the ring and my back gives out way before that so not keen on adding many more miles
Any thoughts on this route ? What would add in, leave out ????
Best

Yeah. Im a little worried about that also
It works out to be
Day 1 - 800km (+ 'Ring) [500 miles]{7hours}
Day 2 - 600km [370 miles]{5hours}
Day 3 - 100km (955km on train) [60 miles]{1hour}
Day 4 - 140km (+Spa) [85 miles]{1hour}
Is 800km + Ring too much for day 1 ? Or will it be the day 1 excitement enough to get through that amount driving.
Perhaps ill add in another day here, with the 7th day resting at home looking over pictures

Definitely too long, we said on our next road trip we would keep the runs to less than 300 miles where possible and have two nights in some stops so as no to feel constantly buzzing and knackered at the same time .........Perhaps i'll add in another day here,
Last year we did the Alps and worked on the basis of 200-300 miles a day and did it in 10 days. The average driving day was about 8 hours including food and fuel stops. I think your 70mph average speed on Day 2 even allowing for autobahn speeds might be a bit optomistic considering you're taking in the Stelvio and the roads leading up to it.

Let alone the fact that every still drives at 65mph and there are endless roadworks on a lot of them. You'd get the odd burst up to a silly speed, only for someone to pull out on you. It isn't worth the risk of sitting at 120+ for hoursI've done Stuttgart to the Ring (1.5hrs at the Ring but couldn't get on track) and then carried on home to Worcestershire (Thats 200 miles the otherside of Dover).
I think it was around 12 hours including the ferry (and the Ring). I felt as bright as a button when I got home. So along as your not doing zillions of laps, Id say it was ok.

Why not do say 600km on the first day, stop over night, then a short 200km burst to the ring. You'll have slept and only had an hour and a half before hitting the ring.
This is a good plan!If its a new car, on unfamiliar roads,, I'd err on the cautious side.
sounds like a grand trip though, enjoy!

As a one of, its fine, I've done 750miles in 12 hours only stopping for fuel and to pick up a sandwich. No problem, went straight to the pub. But, to do 600km a day, and lap the ring, then drive 4 more days after, pass.
