Mondial's are pure Ferrari, seats for children (or small adults) loads of fun and affordable. Not had mine long but think it is fantastic.

My mind often drifts to thought of Mondials.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on ownership toolman?

I notice that you also reside in sunny Manchester - I guess that's why you didn't go for a convertible one.

I always (and still do love mid to late 60's Mustangs) but about 4 years ago read "Born to be Riled" by Mr Clarkson, and he commented on how one could afford a Ferrari for 20k. My wife thought a 2 plus 2 would be better as she owns an MX5 and we don't get chance to use it as there is three of us. So I ended up with a Mondial which turned out to be cheaper. I know it is not one of the best looking Ferrari's but they look better in the flesh. Only had it for about 8 weeks. It is SORN now and as you say Manchester weather has to be the worst in the country. Drove it home from Bury St Edmunds and it drives like a modern car although a bit noiser. From my limited use of the car so far I cannot wait until summer. So what about your wedge and XJS two cool motors!!

I absolutley adore my Jag, but being a petrolhead I'm ALWAYS thinking about what car to get next (I'm sure you know what I mean).

However I just can't seem to find another car that ticks as many of the boxes as the Jag does, so it looks like II'll be sticking with it for a while.

I've often looked at the Mondial, as to me it's Ferrari's version of the XJS (quite long, 2+2, but mid engined etc.) and I reckon would fill the gap left by the Jag if I ever did sell.

The trouble is it would cost me a lot money to change to one and since I learned about the Modial T (Later engine, galvannised body etc.) that's the one I've wanted.

So for the time being I decided to buy the TVR as a plaything to do the things the Jag doesn't do (ie. be a convertible, loud exhaust feel fast at low speeds). I must say though, with this being my third TVR, I'm begining to wonder wheather I should have tried something different such as a lotus??

As for the Jag; well I've just had all the bushes, mounts, steering rack and roll bars done (they weren't worn out - I just thought I'd treat it) and it's feeling great. Don't listen to the naysayers like Jeremy Clarkson this is the best built, best driving most reliable car I've ever owned.

I live near Rochdale BTW.

I agree the T is the same engine as the 348 3.4, They tend to look more upto date i.e. removing the black bits etc and go alot faster. Not sure how reliable the 3.4T is (mine ain't!!) and servicing is more expensive, perhaps a 3.2. If I had got that sort of cash I would most likely have said "sod the kids" or "sod the wife" and bought a 308GTB which for me is second to a F355.

My second car is stock 96 Accord 2.0 which is a great everyday car but to have your TVR wedge as your fun car and the Jag as your every day car is great. When it's time for the Honda to go I want something practical but different. Fancy an Alfa 156 2.5 V6, trouble is it's another Italian not good at reliability. That is from personal experience of my Mondial.

I'm more than happy with buying a Mondial t. Underneath it is a 348 with a bit of 355 thrown in. 300bhp at 7,500 rpm, ABS, power steering, electronically controlled dampers, etc. It turns in like a mid engined Ferrari should and grips like one too. The longer wheelbase probably makes the handling less sudden than a 348.
But it has a front and a rear boot and small back seats that fold down to make strapped luggage platforms. You can go grand touring in this, it certainly swallowed a "big" supermarket load with ease this week.
It is everything a Ferrari should be, has no comparable current model and is amazingly cheap.
