It was a gruesome joy to watch his interviews, you had to feel for the journalists.

That was always the point for me. As far as I'm concerned, Velvet Underground showed millions of kids that you didn't have to be all that knowledgeable or even good to get a band going & make a racket for the fun of it.

Very sad. Transformer changed my life. Up until then, I thought music consisted of Sweet & Slade. Transformer led me to VU, Bowie, Iggy Pop, Cale et al.

Same here, I missed out on their heydays but managed to see Lou at the Brixton Academy in '84 (and back then you needed a really good reason to go to Brixton), Iggy Pop at the same venue in '86, and the Velvets at Wembley Arena in '93. Great music, happy days. Amazed that Iggy is still with us...
