In a couple of weeks I start a daily commute from Milton Keynes to High Wycombe. I live very close to M1 J14 so going M1, M25 and M40 makes some sense except for the traffic. That said, having not done this route before I don't know how bad the M25 really is. Would I be better off going via Aylesbury or another route? Start time is flexible by an hour or so but would generally be around the 9-5.

Going through Aylesbury will be a ballache at that time, and the main road to Wycombe A4010 is a 40mph snoozefest all the way aswell.

I would imagine the M1/M25/M40 route would take a similar time despite being a greater distance, but you're more open to delays etc IMO.

What part of Wycombe are you travelling to? It can make a bit of a difference to route preference as there are a few back roads that could shave a bit of time off.

Great back roads betwixt A5 & A41. Off the A41 near Amersham, pick up M40 near Beaconsfield. The stretch of M25 between M1 & M40 can be hell.

Actually, going west & then down might be a better option (traffic wise)
