After 15 years "down south" I am now planning my move back north of the border where it all began.

Having moved down to London knowing more or less nothing about construction (uni will do that for you!!) i've managed to move through the ranks into a Project Manager role, specialising in the leisure side of the industry and hi-end houses (mainly because they tend to have pools too).

Although I did ponder a complete career change, to be honest I do enjoy my job so am currently wondering how the industry is doing north of the border?

Who are the big/best players, which part of the country does best and is job searching direct with the companies themselves or is it through agencies, as is the norm here.

Any help/info much appreciated.

Thanks,

clarki.

Aberdeen area is usually pretty busy, mostly due to oil and gas jobs, so new houses and developments always on the go.
Glasgow is completing a lot of Commonwealth games venues, so maybe a bit too late for that.
But I'm not sure of the general state of the construction industry there.
Edinburgh there are new build housing developments in planning and early stages of construction in various parts and outlying areas.
Orkney Islands are just completing several years of new schools and new swimming pool, so too late for that.

Would you be interested in working for a pool company who design and build pools?
