Which out the three would still be worth the most 3 years down the line (ignore running costs)?

How about an M3 CSL?

They made an awful lot of all three cards you listed but I would imagine the C2S would holds it money better than the Turbo based on numbers produced and likely buyers.

You'd be better to consider the total cost over the period, not just what it would to worth.

I would put money on it being the 996 turbo.

Interesting responses...I put forward the following...

996 turbo - buy for £23k, worth £14k in 3 years time (£9k lost)

E92 m3 - buy for £23k, worth £11k in 3 years time (£12k lost)

997 - buy for £23k, worth £11k in 3 years time (£12k lost)

However my Porsche owning friend believes a 996 turbo with less than 100k miles on the clock would never be worth less than £20k, but feels over a 3yr cycle total cost of ownership would be...(maintenance + depreciation)

Turbo - £12k (3k dep + 9k maintenance)

M3 - £15k (12k dep + 3k maintenance)

The m3 might hold its value well. Last of the normally aspirated m3s and the only one with a v8.

996tt the fastest by far, on paper, and in the real world.

997 a thing of beauty.

M3 with mods a great track day toy.

All great cars.

Best value probably a 997 at that price for me.

True - but there are a LOT of them, which may mean that only the lowest mileage, newest ones hold good value. Bit like the E46 - the very best have held decent value, but ones that are used are pretty cheap. The new M3 / M4 will push them heavily after a couple of years - a lot of people couldn't care less about it being NA or turbo. Plus the new one is going to be lighter, slightly more powerful, loads more torque - could have a bit of 1M coupe DNA. Unless its a dog, there are enough E90s around to prevent silly prices like the 1M coupe.

911's have this sort of depreciation trough - they bottom out and come good. I think the 996 turbo may have bottomed out, or is very close to it. The 997 has a little way to go, but the normal 996's will cushion them to some extent.

Hence - M3 probably the most value lost, followed but the 997 and then the 996 Turbo - depending of course on how many miles are added.

Can't see a 996 turbo dropping to 14K even midnight blue over terracotta tip on VCAR.
Also 9K for 3 years service and repairs is very pessimistic unless you buy from HWM and get Stevie Wonder to do your PPI.

That looked like a really good buy if a decent car. Very nice colour. Even if you put another 50k miles on it can't see it being worth much less than it's sale price but you will spend £2-3k per year on it if using it as Porsche intended.

I'd guess if you could find them all at 23k, then in 3 years time (my crystal ball says):

996 Turbo will still be above 20k, however could cost you 10k-15k easily over 3 years
997 (if C2S) then you have done very well and will be worth 18k ish and cost 1-2k per year
M3 will lose 30-50% value and cost similar to the 997 to run

Others to consider:

993/964/930
M6/M5
RS4
AMG
Quattroporte if you're feeling brave :-)
